Well, if there ever was a day for watching aliens, it was this one. I flopped on my back and gazed at the sky. It was such a brilliant pinkish-orange evening. If not for the hiccupping of the motor, it might've been relaxing.
"Come on, you stupid piece of junk!" yelled Kiyoshi
Some rather unfriendly noises of boots colliding with metal could be heard from a distance.
Suddenly, something akin to a comet appeared above, darting across the sky. Though somehow i had a feeling that that wasn't what it really was.
"How odd..." I thought
"Huh? What's going on?" I yelled
Everything went blank. I tried to cry out but I realized I could no longer feel my mouth.
My spirit itself felt a tugging, first this way, then that. I thought I was moving up, but no, it was really more... sideways...
And the noise---it felt as if my whole body was a drum, beating with every vibration and hum of some gigantic, terrifying machine.
And then I seemed to be dropping, fast. At that speed, my body felt like it was being ripped apart. I tried to call out again.
"Kiyoshi, you idio---!" I almost got out
*****
"ugh..." I groaned
it felt as though I'd slept on a bed of nails. I don' think I'd ever been that sore. Especially not...
"What happened last night?" I thought
I... I think I can still hear it a bit in the back of my mind... that noise. And I remember... some strange creatures.
When I tried to recall what they looked like, all I could remember were sensations of being probed and cut into.
"What the hell kind of dream was that?" I said aloud
"That... That was a dream, wasn't it?" I realized
As if to answer me, there it was. Lying at the end of my bed was some kind of... remote?
"What's this...?" I said
I picked it up. "Remote" wasn't really the right word to describe it. It definitely wasn't like any remote I'd ever seen. There were buttons on its surface, differentiated only by complex symbols completely alien to me... and maybe every other person on the planet.
"A note?" I said as I noticed a note beside the remote
A piece of paper was directly beneath the remote. Despite the strange symbols on the remote itself, the writing on the paper was in perfect English. I began to read it.
"Greetings, human. We thank you for the valuable data your examination has already provided our kind. However, we still require more data from you.
Many of your kind have attempted contact with us in the past with crude marking made of destroyed plant matter, but few have shown the wisdom to create these marking in worthless turf grass rather then valuable food resources.
In addition, not many have demonstrated the necessary charisma to subjugate the less powerful of your own species to perform physical labor in their stead. Our queen Mother, praise be unto her, was very impressed with your ability to dominate your own kind.
Therefore, you have been made an ideal candidate for the second iteration of our post-examination studies program yet on this planet.
The device accompanying this note is our "gift" for you to use as you see fit. It has many functions tailored to altering the minds and bodies of organic creatures, including the powers to clone, switch bodies, transfer memories, and so on."
