“Welcome to my channel, I Mike and I am the Urban Gap Explorer.” announced a young man in his early 20’s to the camera sitting beside his lap top. He was a very fit young man but not the body builder type, his girlfriends had called it a swimmer’s body lean but strong. He kept in shape not by swimming even though he sometimes had to do that but by running a popular channel where he went urban exploring.
He was sitting in a hotel room but clear as day behind him was the Brooklyn bridge in NYC.
“Today, I finally found a way into the old subway network…” he started before going on about all the old subway lines and whole stations which had been abounded in the big apple. He added about large tunnels which carried multiple pipes which kept the great city running.
“No one has really dared to explore these tunnels since the virus, word is whole animal people societies have grown up under our very feet.” He announced “So say there is a king who rules them all and some have said they are devolving into inhuman animal minded monsters down there. I will find out on this episode of Urban Gap Explorer and don’t worry I am vaccinated.”
Then he went over his equipment for this “mission.” Finally, with that done he shut the camera off and headed out the door. He would edit everything once he got back.
He found the door just where his contact said it would be, he had paid off a city worker for a general map of the tunnels, there was no full map and to leave one of the old subway entrances unlocked. A small building had been built over it but he walked in to find the door leading into the dark unlocked. With a that he was off.
It was dark, smelly and would have been a great set for a horror movie. So everything was normal. He journeyed into the darkness, passing by a homeless human sleeping near a heating vent. Saw his first animal hybrid less then 5 minutes in but it was a sleeping bunny woman. She looked almost human, she still wore human cloths some of her kind didn’t and she was dressed in old army surplus stuff her long ears poking out of holes and while he couldn’t see the rest of her body her face was about halfway covered with grey fur.
He found more and more animal hybrids as he headed down the track, most were asleep. Since most where not welcome above the general rule was that animal hybrids mostly came out at night and slept during the day. That is why he decided to come here during the day when most of them should be sleeping.
Some hybrids looked more humans than others, some had only a tail or ears but some had dumped their cloths all together for fur or scales. Some of them looked at him with confusion, some with anger but most where asleep and none approached him. So far he had seen nothing that hadn’t been seen by some news crew or documentary on them.
He journeyed deeper coming to a long abounded subway station when he noticed a lion man with a rather impressive main walk through a metal door. Seeing this as his chance, he instead of going down the line of seemly normal homeless animals he headed toward the door. He pulled it to find a small storage room with no lion man.
It took some time, but he found a freshly dug tunnel behind the remains of a storage tank. He slipped in and was in total darkness, but he had night vision to see and his camera caught everything as well. He journeyed down the tunnel and let out a gasp when he reached the end.
It was a large cavern likely once used to store equipment used to dig subway tunnels but now had a massive tent city full of animal hybrids. He saw what had to be a hundred or so different types children where running between tents with Christmas lights serving as street lights.
He had found it, he had found a whole community of animal people in the heart of New York City.
