"So how you doing today Jacob," Julia asked as she approached with her medical bag. Jacob shrugged, taking another swig of beer as hey stared off into the backyard.
"Pretty good I suppose," he said. "Think the wound is finally starting to heal."
Julia nodded, lifting Jacobs shirt before removing the dressing. As she did, Ruck noticed a satisfied smile criss her face. "Well you're right about that," she said. "Wounds like this have a tendency to take a long time to heal but I think your finally turning the corner." Jacob simply nodded, taking another swig of beer as Julia regressed the wound. "So have you seen the counselor I recommended yet?"
"Counselor," Rick asked. Julia nodded, the leggy blond doctor now looking at the younger Moreland. "I recommend amputees seeing a counselor after their injuries," she said. "People that often times survive these types of injuries experience PTSD. Considering what your brother does for a living."
"Did," Jacob grunted. "Did for a living."
"And that's my point," Julia sighed. "You've been a Demon Hunter your entire life. Suddenly having that taken away can be hard."
"I'll think about it," Jacob grumbled.
"Wait hold on," Rick exclaimed. "You know about vampires and demon hunters?!"
"Of course," Julia replied. "You'd be amazed at what I know or what I've seen over the last eight years."
Rick smirked, finding the doctors confidence intriguing. "Okay Doc spill. What've you seen?"
Rick quickly found himself regretting his statement as Julia laid bare everything she had witnessed. From Katie and her friends becoming wizards, to passing the Ring on to Gloria. Meeting witches. Alternate timelines. Werewolves. Kitsune. Demons. Everything Julia had witnessed second hand as the wizards unofficial medic. Needless to say, Rick found himself picking his jaw up off the ground.
"Okay so hold on," Rick stammered, his head spinning from the massive amount of information he had received in about 10 minutes. "So your sister Claudia is a wizard." Julia nodded. "She was nearly paralyzed by a kitsune. Adopted a kitsune child and had twin hybrid kitsune kids!"
"Pretty much," Julia shrugged. "Oh and my brothers kids Tommy and Yuriko are wizards too."
"And they're being babysat by your sister in laws sister right now who is also a wizard?"
"I see you were paying attention," Julia smirked. "Yeah my sister in laws little sister Naomi is watching the kids right now. Katie and a few of her friends are checking out some of the towns that have had an uptick in vampire activity."
"Thanks to my kid brother," Jacob smirked. "He was the one that figured out the vamps were on the move." Julia now glanced at Rick, watching the man sheepishly rub the back of his neck. "Um your welcome."
"So Doc," Jacob interrupted. "Surprised you weren't going out with Nina today."
"Nina did mention something about getting together today," Julia said. "I told her I couldn't make it."
"Well if your interested shes right inside," Jacob stated, gesturing towards the house. Julia now curiously looked through a window, a small smirk cracking on her face. Nina appeared to have invited Lisa, Kumiko, and Maddie Haskins over. The four women now engaged in a magical card game.
As the group now completed another hand, Julia watched Maddie groan in annoyance. The college age brunette was growing younger, Maddie's face rounding as her curves seemed to evaporate. The others chuckling good naturedly at the high school senior.
"Take it this happens more often than not," Rick stated.
"Pretty much," Julia chuckled.
"So," Rick asked. "Guessing you're going to be joining them when your done with my brother?"
"Wasn't planning on it," Julia shrugged. "I suck at cards. Really don't want to end up back in preschool today."
"So what are your plans today doc" Jacob asked. "Cause if your free I'm pretty sure my little brother would like to take you out for dinner."
Julia now stifled a laugh as the younger Moreland turned beat red, staring daggers at his older brother. "Damn it Jacob really," he groaned. "You ain't never heard of subtlety? Besides I'm sure the doc already has someone special."
"I wish," Julia grumbled. "Painfully single, which is really annoying considering my younger siblings are either married or about to get married."
"Well lucky for you so's my kid brother," Jacob grinned. Julia now turned to Rick, watching as the man's shoulders slumped. "Thanks Jacob appreciate that."
Julia now rubbed her chin, an impish smirk crossing her face as she gazed at the handsome man. "I guess dinner never hurt anyone," Julia grinned.
