"Transform!" Jen's thoughts were racing. She'd never believed in the town curse before, but the way Kyle had asked... she shivered at the thought.
Kyle laughed. "Good, I was hoping you'd say that..."
Jen's heart sunk. What was this little punk gonna do to her?
"For your transformation, Jennifer Smith, you'll turn into a centaur!" Now it was Jen's turn to laugh. A centaur? Like the mythical creature? He couldn't be serious, could he? She tried to speak, to ask him what his deal was, but found that she couldn't.
"You won't be laughing for much longer, Jenny. Your change into a centaur will happen as soon as I hang up, and it'll probably be painful enough for you to black out. If you do, when you wake up, not much will be different. Everyone will remember you as having always been a centaur, including yourself, and you'll forget about this call and the Town Curse entirely. That doesn't mean it'll be normal. Oh no, far from it. As the only centaur in existence, you'll be a freak, a social outcast. Bridging two worlds, the human and the equine, but not quite fitting in with either. People will stare at you. Some people will treat you like an animal, and you might find it hard to get any employment beyond what a horse normally does. Maybe it'll change if you can get into college, who knows, because you'll be a horse-assed freak! Hahaha! Look who's laughing now, bitch!"
Kyle hung up. Jen didn't even have the time to think about what he'd said before she was blinded by a searing pain in her legs. They cramped so hard that she was sent falling to the floor, unable to feel anything but white-hot agony. Her bones shifted underneath her skin, growing, changing; she felt her organs rearranging in her torso. Just as his curse had said, she blacked out.
