“Please remain calm, here at build your own merperson once you build it you become it.” Said the robotic voice as you just stand there stunned and confused in your glass prison beside your girlfriend who was in a matching glass prison of her own. “Prepare to become your avatars…enjoy your time as a merperson. Beginning transformation.”
“Beginning what?” inquired Katie as the glass prisons you are in begin to lower down.
“And now a word from the great man responsible for this all.” Said the voice as the screen which had shown your Avatar flickered and changed, you hadn’t even gotten a chance to look at the avatar.
It was replaced by the face of a man you knew well even if you had never meet him in person. It was hard not to know Mr. Ebony Davenport owner of Davenport Corporation which was the richest company in the world, and he as sole owner was the richest man in the world. He was so rich that while his public wealth sat at over 500 billion most people believed he is the actually the worlds first trillionaire.
“Hello, I am Ebony Davenport and I hope that someday that you will forgive me for what I am about to do to you all.” Said the old man as he sat behind a desk. “See the world is doomed, be it global warming, nuclear war, pollution or simply over crowding causing a mass extinction humanity is doomed. However, humanity or at least a new version of it will remain in a safe space.”
“Chris…what is happening?” inquired Katie as she stood beside you, wishing like you that the two of you could be holding hands.
“Over 2 decades ago, some of my researchers found that all those so-called crazy ideas of the hollowed earth is actually true.” Said Ebony as a computer-generated image of the earth appeared only the inside was hollowed with a flaming hot mini sun forming the core. “This will be your new home and where a new version of humanity will be protected from the coming disasters. It is an almost closed environment, pure clean water, thousands of species and it is safe from all the coming ends which will doom those on the surface. Only problem is that there is no land, only sea and a few small islands no capable of supporting enough humans to keep the population alive. So a new subspecies of humans is needed, that is where you come in. You are about to become Homo-mercanis, basically merpeople. You will live in this new under water garden of Eden and who better to populate this new world then people who already love what they are about to become.”
“This guy is crazy.” You proclaimed, not noticing that small vents in the floor had opened up in your prison. Unknown to you gas began to fill the chamber.
“I hope one day, you will forgive me but to save humanity I had to take you away from your lives and transform you.” Stated the crazy trillionaire “Do not worry about your former lives that will be taken care of, we have plans to cover up all your disappearances. You are being lowered to a waiting semi-truck which will take you to the nearest center I have set up around the world and there the transformation process will begin before you are taken to the entrees to your new home in the howled earth sea.”
“All?” inquired Katie her voice sounding a little distance as the glass prison stopped at a hidden underground loading dock like area. You saw men and women dressed in gas masks on pushing carts with more people toward waiting trucks. Everyone on the carts where knocked out and restrained.
That is when you finally noticed the whole room was spinning and it was hard to focus.
“Thank you and once again I am sorry.” Said Ebony Davenport as you fall to the ground a second before your girlfriend did. You stayed awake long enough to hear the door to your prison open before someone walked in with a gas mask and put a needle in your arm drawing some blood before handing that off. Once cleared another person put something else in you.
Then the world turned black.
