You clear your throat and decide to plow forward. Considering the situation, you are actually a little embarrassed, but your curiosity has outweighed your discomfiture. Even though Vari appears to you (and only you, as you remind yourself) as an easygoing woman in a relatively casual work outfit, you're still unsure where your story will lead, so you are still hesitant.
"You see, I think you have something that belongs to me," you begin. As Vari's brows begin to knit slightly, you hurriedly continue your explanation. "My grandfather passed away recently..."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," Vari butts in, playing the part of the kind, comforting middle-aged woman to a tee.
"Uh, yeah, we weren't that close," you reply awkwardly. "But you see, I'm his only granddaughter, so apparently he left me something in his will. At least, he left me this. I'm not exactly sure what this means, though." As you finish your explanation, you hand Vari a receipt that has the logo of "More Than Masks" emblazoned across the top. At the bottom is your grandfather's signature. It's obvious something was purchased at the shop, but you can't figure out what it is from the writing. If it's something your grandfather owned, why did he leave it at the shop? If he never used it, why the heck did he buy it in the first place, then leave it to you, his granddaughter he never had anything to do with? And considering the kind of outfits you could get in this place...you shook your head to try to clear away the thoughts that were getting more uncomfortable by the second.
"Ah, I see, he was a customer!" Vari smiles at the receipt, seemingly beginning to recall details as her eye lights up. "Oh, he must have brought the suit in for a cleaning and refurbishment. That often happens when our customers wish to resell or gift the suit to another. Although this seems to have taken place quite a while ago. I'll have to check in the back, but it looks like all the costs have been covered. Just a moment, let me see if I can find it."
Vari gives the store a quick scan, and luckily all the current customers seem to be happily examining the goods and not looking to cause problems like the last few. Satisfied that things will not fall apart if she is absent for a moment, Vari heads through a door in the back with a sign saying "Employees Only," leaving you to fidget a bit uncomfortably near the satyr costumes. It wasn't that you were a prude, but...this was a little out of your usual routine. You try to distract yourself by examining the gloves section instead, but the gloves that appeared to have tentacles for fingers were weirding you out.
"Here we are!" Vari speaks up from behind you, nearly causing you to jump out of your skin. You turn around quickly, your cheeks still slightly red. Vari doesn't seem to notice as she smiles and hands you a relatively large clothing box. "I hope you will enjoy it as much as it appears your grandfather did, it was quite the substantial investment. Please feel free to return if we can help you with anything else."
"Wait, this is all mine? It's not like, a rental or something?" you ask, a bit confused. Opening the side of the box slightly and peeking inside, your eyes widen even more. "Are you sure this is the right thing?"
"Most definitely," Vari grins. "And it is entirely yours. As I stated, the costs have all been covered, and the instructions are still in the box, I believe." You want to question further, but you and Vari turn as you both hear a slight scuffle break out in a back corner of the shop. "Well, if there's nothing else, I hope you are satisfied with your product! Have a good day!" Vari calls over her shoulder as she strides in the direction of the noise, leaving you dumbfounded.
After you come to your senses, you leave the store and head straight home. There's no way you want to run into anyone you know with this thing in hand. Finally, in the safety of your bedroom, you place the box on the bed, take a deep breath, and open in the box.
