Janet felt parched from her ordeal and wanted to get something to drink. So Janet picked herself off the floor, straightening out her dress and apron, and turned to face the kitchen. Only what she thought was the direction to the kitchen was in fact the living room, much to her irritation.
"Oh bother, I've forgotten where I was again. I wonder if I'll ever get use to this?"
Janet then turned around and gently walked towards the kitchen, making sure she was being very courteous to her surroundings. As she walked, Janet noticed some very unusual things around her. This included a clock with its hands moving in reverse, a yellow bird coming out of a mouse hole, and the dining room table turned into a football field for silverware. Janet marveled at what she saw.
"Curiouser and curiouser. Oh my, I just quoted Alice in Wonderland without even realizing it. How very odd of me."
Janet eventually reached the kitchen and stood in front of the refrigerator. Janet remembered what happened when she upset Lady Chair and didn't want to anger the fridge. So Janet cleared her throat and politely spoke to the fridge.
"Um, excuse me refrigerator. May I have your attention please?"
The eyes of the fridge opened up as it spoke with an older male's voice.
"Mmm {yawn}, I say now- Oh! Well hello there my dear. What can I do for you?" The fridge said.
"Well first of all, I peg your pardon for waking you sir. You see I'm feeling rather thirsty right now and if it's not too much trouble, I would like something to drink sir." Janet politely suggested.
"Why you most certainly can my dear. Have anything you like." The fridge said.
"My goodness, thank you kind sir." Janet said as she bowed and curtseyed.
"You are very welcome." Said the fridge.
The fridge then opened its doors to reveal to Janet all that was inside. There were all kinds of drinks to choose, from water to soda. One drink that caught Janet's attention was a small glass bottle with a pink tag on it that said 'DRINK ME' on it. Janet saw the bottle and instantly remembered the part of the story where Alice shrank, so she knew to avoid it. But Janet found herself staring at the bottle, particularly the tag, as its instructions played out inside her head. Janet then saw her hand reach out for the bottle and realized that her Alice personality also had to obey any written commands. Janet tried to stop herself, but found that she could no longer control her own body as it took the bottle out of the fridge and brought it to her lips. Powerless to stop it, Janet began drinking the bottle's contents and didn't stop until it was empty. Janet then placed the empty bottle on the counter and stood in place, dreading what will happen next.
"I can't believe I just did that. Now I'm going to shut up like a telescope. Oh dear, I'm still quoting Alice in- {hiccup} Oh, excuse me-{hiccup} Oh, excus-{hiccup} Oh, ex- {hiccup} Oh- {hiccup} {hiccup} {hiccup} {hiccup}"
Janet began hiccuping uncontrollably with no sign of stopping. While this was happening, Janet found herself shrinking in short spurts for every hiccup she was making. With noting else to do, Janet was forced to watch as the entire kitchen steadily grew larger and larger. As Janet shrank, her skirt and hair would bop a bit every time she hiccuped. Eventually, Janet stopped shrinking at around 3 inches high, but not before ending on a loud burp.
"{hiccup} {hiccup} {hiccup} {hiccup} {BUUURRRRRRPPP} OH! EXCUSE ME! I AM DREADFULLY SORRY ABOUT THAT! GOODNESS!" Janet shouted in embarrassment.
Janet then looked up at the now massive kitchen.
"Oh my goodness. I'm so small now. I'm definitely in a lower social stature than I was before- {gasps} Oh dear!"
Janet suddenly realized that her smaller size had made her far more vulnerable to commands that would come from anything taller than her now. Janet knew she had to be extra careful if she didn't want to end up in servitude.
