Toni felt her breath catch as she caught sight of triangular ears above a tall humanoid form, and a tail swishing slightly behind. It was a canine-looking half-beast. Had she been tracked down by her kidnappers? Was she imprisoned? Toni involuntarily tensed up as the creature approached.
The half-beast glanced at her, noticing she was awake, and appearing to recognize her discomfiture. However, rather than reacting, it calmly placed a pitcher of water and a full cup on a small table next to the bed.
Now that her vision was clearer, Toni found herself staring at half-beast. He was a young man, with darkly-tanned skin and mostly human features, apart from the obviously wolf-like ears and tail. His clothes seemed rather basic, but covered his muscled form. His short silver hair and golden eyes stood out starkly in the dimly-lit room.
"You should drink something," the half-beast said softly without meeting her gaze, as though he did not wish to startle her. "I'll bring you some food later." He turned to leave, but paused at the door. "No one will harm you here," he stated before closing the door behind him.
Toni listened carefully, but no one else came to the door. Looking around, the room was quite sparse, although it was neat and relatively clean. Unsteadily but carefully getting to her feet, Toni crept to the door. There was no knob, but a simple latch, which did not seem to be capable of locking.
