Publicity can be a double-edged sword. Someone or someplace could be receiving good publicity at first only for it to be turned against them. A good example would be what happened at a particular Chinese restaurant. A few months ago, a bull had gotten loose and plowed into the restaurant. It caused quite a bit of damage before it was eventually chased out. The authorities weren't sure how the animal had gotten loose, whether it was a result of sabotage or not.
Eventually, the only solution they could think of was to interrogate the bull itself. And the only way to do that was to uplift it. Nate and Shuixing had been brought in to turn the bull into an Animalian. The bull, which was rather unimaginatively named Gongniu or 'Bull', gave an account where apparently some drunken guys crashed into the gate of his pen and allowed him to wander out. He only charged into the restaurant because he saw his reflection in the glass door and thought it was another bull challenging him.
The case seemed pretty much solved by then. Gongniu agreed to work at the restaurant both to pay for the damages there and the hospital bill for the owner. Of course, having an Animalian employee soon brought in a lot of business for the restaurant. It seemed like things would work out well for everyone.
Unfortunately, the restaurant soon attracted the wrong attention. Soon, the local organized crime (the restaurant owner was advised to not mention specific names) wanted a piece of the action. They tried to talk to the owner about getting 'protection' to make sure his business was unmolested. Of course, the owner wasn't about to be extorted like that, especially when he's still getting his restaurant paid off for. And it was rather unwise to muscle in on a bull Animalian that outweighed you by a few hundred pounds.
When the gangsters couldn't physically threaten the restaurant, they deployed a more devastation weapon: slander. They began spreading rumors that Gongniu and the owner had a closer relationship than was appropriate. They also drummed up rumors that previous employees had left due to sexual harassment, particularly from male employees. Of course, those rumors were utterly baseless, but these lies were finding fertile soil. With the Chinese government trying to scapegoat the LGBT+ community, any signs of 'sexual deviation' was quickly cracked down upon. Even the fact that uplifted Animalians couldn't be gay didn't mitigate things as accusation was heaped upon the owner.
Just as fast as business had been blooming, it dried up. People were insisting that the owner gets converted or leave. And the gangsters were waiting in the background to swoop in when the opportunity arose. However, Gongniu was able to get in touch with Shuixing and explain their situation. Shuixing and Jinxing, who was now a part of Interpol, were able to use their influence to arrange for Gongniu, the owner, and whatever staff wanted to accompany them to set up a new restaurant on Heiya Island.
It seemed unlikely that the gangsters would try to get them on Heiya Island, though Interpol had advised that they kept quite about the specifics regarding the gangsters until the gang has been put behind bars. Which could still take a long time. Meanwhile, business was far better on Heiya Island and people there were far more accepting of others' preferences, even if the rumors about them were untrue.
