After a long night of studying and fooling around, Jennifer wakes up and gets ready for her busy day. After showering, she puts on a pair of dark pants, white blouse, tan cardigan, and tennis shoes. She affixed her glasses and headed out the door doing her best not to wake up Keshawn, her boyfriend.
When she threw her book bag into the passenger seat of the car, she noticed a watch fall out onto the seat. “What’s this?” She muttered. “It looks like Mr. Johnson’s watch! I better return this today so it doesn’t look like I stole it. I would hate to lose my only college job. Jennifer backed out of the driveway and drove towards the college campus.
On the way to school, Jennifer could see her local Starbucks in the distance and decided to grab a latte on the way. She pulled into the drive through line and began to recall how close she was to finishing her degree. She’s been attending for 5 drooling years but this was her last semester before she graduated with a Masters. She couldn’t imagine restarting her program. While sitting in the drive thru and contemplating life, Jennifer was toying with the watch and affixed the watch to her wrist so she wouldn’t lose it.
As she ordered and pulled around to the window, the male barista told her it would be a minute and started small chit chat. The barista was wearing a blue denim button up shirt with a green Starbucks apron over it. He looked very stereotypical for a barista Jennifer thought. Their conversation turned into Jennifer explaining how excited she was to graduate in a few weeks and the male barista really wants to start a program himself, nothing like Jennifer’s Engineering degree but something in the arts. That’s when her latte was ready and the exchange went a little wrong. They were too busy exchanging goodbyes to realize the barista overshot the coffee cup and hit the button on the watch.
Everything went blurry and Jennifer came to. She was no longer in her car but inside the Starbucks. She could actually see her car parked in the side parking through the drive thru window. She was now behind the counter wearing a blue denim shirt dress that resembled the others barista’s shirt color and design. She was also wearing a green apron and had a headset affixed to her head to take drive thru orders. She was moving behind the counter as if nothing happened and she knew every procedure and coffee order by heart.
when she got a minute, she continued her conversation with the male barista, who is now wearing a white button down shirt and a tan cardigan, about him finishing his degree this semester and how she should enroll in college.. Little to anyone’s knowledge, the watch was set to quality change and Jennifer took on the qualities of the male barista. Because the cup had hit the button, the cup was viewed as the user and neither Jennifer or the male barista are aware.
