Some bouncing around later, Andrew was dumped on a table with a bunch of other figurines and rolled into place among a scale-model skatepark.
The 8 year old boy waved his hands like he was playing with strings, and suddenly several skaters including Andrew unstiffened, grabbed their boards, and flipped into position by a magical pull moreso than their own ability.
"Okay everybody, time for Skater Grind!" he said. "Featuring a new competitor, Number 8! Tell me about yourself!"
Somehow, Andrew felt he could respond again. "I'm not supposed to be a toy!" Andrew shouted. "I'm Andrew, I got a skateboard at the arcade and then I shrunk down!"
"Oh, huh." the 8 year old boy said, as the other toy skaters returned to their default poses. "That's new. Most toys just tell me about who they're a toy of. Sometimes the factory. But an arcade? That's new."
Andrew stiffened back up and returned to pose as well. There was a brief uncomfortable pause.
"Huh, you've got a little...all jammed up..." the boy said, pointing at Andrew and circling his finger around while muttering. "Mom says that's for special cases. Let's see if that works..."
Andrew managed to shake himself free of the pose and collapse into sitting on his board.
"What's going on? Why am I a toy?" Andrew asked, confused.
"Dunno." the boy said. "Mom'll probably figure it out eventually, but she's doing things right now. You wanna skate while I figure out how to do stuff?"
"Um...what?" Andrew asked.
"Oh, right. Toys don't usually object when I make them walk." the boy said. "We're gonna play skaters. I saw this match on TV and I'm gonna see if I can recreate it without anybody hitting each other. Dunno if you walking is gonna mess it up so just hang on. I'm Mikhail by the way."
Mikhail waved his hands again, and suddenly Andrew felt himself being pulled into a dramatic descent down a half-pipe.
"Number 8 takes the lead! It's Andrew everybody!" Mikhail announced, pulling Andrew and the other skater toys into a recreation of multiple routines at once. Andrew found it in himself to give a meek "aaaaaaa" as he was flung back and forth and making the motions of a much bigger showcase. This went on for a while, coupled with periodic waves and cheers from other models of toys in the room and the occasional narrowly-avoided midair collision.
Eventually Mikhail stopped waving his hands like a conductor and began mimicking post-match congratulations. Various high-fives, thumbs-up, handshakes, and hugs were given by expression-neutral toys before they returned to form more or less wherever they could get to their boards. This left Andrew on the table and Mikhail looking at him blankly.
"You're small." Mikhail stated about Andrew obviously. "I think I could fiddle with that a bit without breaking you."
Mikhail began waving his hands in a different pattern, as if pointing and clicking on an invisible holographic panel or possibly tracing lines between dots. Thinking better of some possibility or other, he twitched his head vigorously and in a seamless motion harmlessly flung Andrew and his board off the table and let them gently on the ground.
"Oo, but if I don't poke that first I could end up with a small normal guy. Or a big skater. Or a statue of a guy, and a guy who has to act like a skater. Maybe if I hit them all at once, it explodes, but if I copy this instead you turn into a real boy like me..."
"Uh, what are you doing?" Andrew asked.
Mikhail said "Magic stuff. This spell is really silly, like it was meant to do something else but it's really dumbly aimed and they forgot the instructions. I think there's an off switch or the board does a refresh key but if I break this it repairs itself and...I'll tell you if I figure it out."
