On the 31st of July, the Society Act was passed through Parliament, binding all of the United Kingdom to a new rule: every year, 100 citizens would be selected according to criteria laid out every year. These citizens would them be sequestered from society, and made to live in experimental conditions as long as needed, in order to assess the prospects of several long-term government projects. These could range from purely sociological, to ones involving extensive mental and physical changes.
No one knew who'd be picked, or why. No one even knew if they were at risk until a week before the selection date, when the criteria were set out. In the years since, seemingly random selections of people have been taken away, and never seen again. No results have been published for any of these studies yet. Shows have had to be cancelled as their lead actors have come up in the lottery. Teenagers leaving school have been snatched up right before university. Elderly people have been taken from retirement homes, businessmen from their offices.
So, what happens in this year's Society lottery? And what mad experiment are they being taken away to participate in?
