Shaniquah stepped into the store, her hands behind her back fiddling with the fidget spinner that she had found in her pocket. Her short curly bob, bounced up and down next to her assortment of colorful jewelry. Her eyes were drawn to all the various objects which sparked an urge for her to touch them.
going up and down each aisle, she quickly touched her index finger on every item, counting them one by one. This had been a habit of hers for years, ever since she was a toddler. The doctors put it down to one of her stimming needs, as a way to get used to her surroundings when in a new environment.
"Oh hey Its you Shaniquah right" came a female-sounding voice , the same one that originally sold the soda to her.
Shaniquah awkwardly went through the motions as she ignored the clerk, seeing that she only had half an aisle left, and continued counting.
Sandra meanwhile had walked in behind her special friend, instantly locking eyes with the clerk and asserting herself.
"Hello, sorry my friend here just needs to check out all the items, she sometimes gets a little lost in the moment," Sandra said as she smiled, turning to her friend
"come on Shaniquah, the nice lady is waiting to serve you, "
134, 135. Cool the exact same as before shaniquah thought to herself, finally feeling comfortable she turned to the clerk staring at her feet and slowly moved up her head, letting out a small laugh at the blue badge on her chest, its kinda similar to some of mine she thought.
"What can I do for you honey" the Clerk re-iterated, shocked at how different this woman was from before.
Taking a couple of minutes to think through her words, being around this person made her feel so nervous. It wasn't like talking to Sandra.. who she'd known since she was little.
"S..So I NEED to get rid of ablism, I want a soda to make me understand everyone, its unfair that I can walk, that i am healthy.. "
"Hang on a second, you want to become disabled?" The clerk said with dejection, appalled at such an idea.
"Hey it's her choice, I think it's noble," Sandra said backing up her friend, curious to see how this ends.
Feeling overjoyed that she is backed up in making the right choice, Shaniquah doubled down on herself.
"... I want to understand, I can't with this body, give me a body I can rid this UNDERSERVED PRIVILEGE FROM ME" Shaniquah said, as she covered her ears with her hands, throwing the fidget spinner to the floor and began shouting the same 3 words.
Getting another mouthful on the earpiece, the clerk sighed once more. realizing that if she couldn't convince an educated woman earlier, she won't have much chance against a severely autistic one.
"Okay OKAY STOP I'LL GET YOU YOUR DRINK" The clerk shouted, a little fed up and just wanting her shift to end. Shaniquah lowered her arms when she saw the lady bring out the cup, finally, this will complete her she thought. skipping closer to the soda.
"boss just sent this down, special delivery, just be sure to not drink too much, the more you drink the more intense it will be. "
Shaniquah Lifted it up and...
