“COME ON MUM. HURRY UP. The bus to the Myth Embassy will be outside and we’ll lose our chance to get on” this short-cut messy light brown haired 11 year old girl wearing a green dungarees over a white T-shirt with red trainers called upstairs. “IT WOULD BE QUICKER OF YOU HELPED HERE MONICA” the girl’s mother called back in frustration. “But we won’t be-” Monica started as she headed upstairs. “Depends on what we’ll end up as” her mother interrupted.
Monica and her mother happened to live in one of the towns within one of the few areas that had be most opposed to the outright war when the mythical creatures re-emerged which in the long-term gave them ample leverage in focusing on taking on volunteers as opposed to drafting or unwilling lottery. That said it also resulted in them having among the smallest quota requirements and thus the fewest going on monthly averages to be transformed.
It had been Monica’s idea to sign up after her father died from one of the ‘Rouge Vanguards’ raids who had been running amuck around the country following the peace talks, mostly to finally get away from the...
...The Rouge Vanguard as they had been officially named even though members preferred ‘Earth’s Last Stand Fighters’ were a Millais group formed from soldiers since permanently discharged and family members of those lost or imprisoned for war crimes during and following the war, their goal the continued protection from the ‘genetic monsters’ (Read; massacring) and those that embraced them as sentient. Making matters trickier was that quite often lawyers known for working for the government leaders most opposed to the peace terms had often on retainer charges successfully gotten agents off for their crimes.
“Tell me mum? Which mythological creatures wore Jean skirts or Bomber Jackets?” Monica dared her Raven-haired white jacket over a black jumper with light brown trousers and black slip-on shoes mother. “Fairies are often dressed. Some depictions of mermaids had either Seashell or seaweed top. Plus among the arrangements I do recall talks of helping the Mythologicals adapt clothing wise” Jennifer argued “Plus your adamant on being quite over the option you chose for us in the part of the forms we went over and I never got to see” she continued while getting a suitcase packed “plus what do you think’s going to happen to everything here once we’re gone?”. “Last I heard unless it’s entertainment based like DVDs or equipment reworked for easier use to the transformation it’s all donated... like Millie’s family remember” Monica answered, said former classmate and her family having left two months back to become myths.
Before Jennifer cold argue more the sound on the special bus stopping and sounding it’s signal was heard outside “Out of time mum. We need to go” Monica insisted. “Least we’re somewhat packed” Jennifer accepted as the two left the house for maybe the final time and made their way to the bus. “Luggage bringers huh?” the driver remarked as she noticed the suitcase as the mother and daughter pair got on. “Would be more but-” Jennifer started. “least your just a single suitcase. Had issues of kids your daughter’s age trying to bring the whole house if not their bedroom” the driver assured. “Told you” Monica called out as she took her seat. “I’ll help you load that into the storage truck” the driver meanwhile assured Jennifer.
“But mum I dowanna” Monica meanwhile overheard this 8 year old boy among a small group further back “I want to stay with dad”. “On way are any of my darlings remaining with that drink-loving brute” the boy’s mother argued. “Besides we all finally get to be what we were always meant to be” what to Monica appeared to be one of the boy’s three sisters chuckled. “BUT I’M A BOY” the boy argued. “Rare pull along huh?” Monica noted “Mum must be planning on changing to only having daughters”. “Thanks for the help” Jennifer meanwhile thanked as she got on the bus. “Just doing my job ma’m” the driver assured as he returned to the wheel while Jennifer got seated. “Well. Here we go” Monica called as the bus resumed its journey.
Later after everyone bar the driver from the bus were inside the embassy’s main lobby “Interesting collection of awakened today I see” the Minotaur in a Blue business suit noted over the collection. “He sounds...unusually calm” Jennifer pondered. “Quite mum” Monica insisted quietly. “Now then, from here I will be calling out the races of this gathering’s transformations and when done so you’re to head on through to the corridor with the green door here” the Minotaur then started “and be warned that unless you didn’t select an option in the forms as all lists we have here today already tell us. There will be repercussions”. ‘Moment of Truth’ Jennifer thought as Monica would be leading her upon the right call out:
