Animalia Magazine: Swimsuit Surprise Edition

added by makutamon A year ago O

The May Edition of Animalia Magazine was called the Swimsuit Surprise edition, mostly because of the surprising facts that came with it.

---

The Cover "Couple" were actually Animalia's Six-and-One as well as Sylvia from the Seven-on-Four Night, all in different styles of swimwear, from simple one-pieces, to some that had decorative cuts in them, to even a skimpy bikini set or two (though that was only accessible in the digital version). Their article talked about the "evolution" of beachwear, beachside traditions, and the "popular culture" of the beach. One of the beachside traditions that were generating some controversy, though not in the traditional way, was a sub-article that talked about so-called "modesty rules", mainly because nobody really followed them in this day and age.

There were plenty who were shocked to learn that the origin of the bikini actually came from the atomic bomb tests that were part of Operation: Crossroads, one of which happened at Bikini Atoll, which actually wasn't too far from Mieni Atoll. This generated a lot of comments from "Boomers" who mocked "Millennials" about not knowing about the truth of the Cold War, but there were just as many who responded cleverly to said "Boomers" in ways that reminded them of what else was going on at the time.

---

To tie in with the article, and to meet the demand for more attractions at Mieni, there was an, unofficial, add-on to the War in the Pacific Museum that talked about Operation: Crossroads (which had been declassified and released for the public). Again, there wasn't any real hate or prejudice being shown, just statements of the fact. There was also a sub-exhibit called "Operation: Crossroads Today" that focused on the new discoveries that had been found on the Atoll, mainly the naturally phosphorescent lifeforms and the giant pearl oysters that had been found when Mieni was becoming established.

---

Another article talked about the archeological discoveries that had been found at what was now Vilcabamba, from the original burial ground to the new cavern discovery. It also discussed the various Mesoamerican cultures that had been found in the area, and what was now known about them. For example, in the sub-article that talked about the Mayan graves that had been found, it also talked about the events that led to the fall/disappearance of the Maya Civilization.

While it was now accepted that climate changed ended up causing a great drought that hastened the collapse of the Maya, new evidence showed that during said drought, a sudden rise of a so-called "drought cult" which practiced extreme levels of human sacrifice inadvertently made things worse instead of better.

The final sub-article covered the finding of the cave system that was now known to be in Vilcabamba. It included a map that showed all nine "levels" of the cave, and the Mesoamerican gods associated with each level. What was surprising was that, in a way, the Mesoamerican idea of the underworld was similar to the Christian view as a place of terrible suffering.
