Day 01:
I don't know who used to own this journal before. I guess since it was left in this place when we arrived, they no longer need it. Which is good, because I feel like I need to write down what's going on to keep myself sane.
My name is Edward. I'm 22 years old. And I don't know how, but I was somehow transported to this place with both my mom and my best friend Jared. And where "here" is, I haven't the faintest clue. All I do know is there was this big flash of light, we woke up here, there are strange things out there and we have no clue how to get home. Mom says we have to do some exploring, or else we're gonna be in some serious trouble. I've never seen her like this before, to be honest. At home, she was always quieter and more passive. Jared, meanwhile, has taken to just staying near this place, as its got a hot spring and a waterfall nearby. He always was more outdoorsy than I was. My main focus has to be finding something to eat for us so we don't starve.
We have to get home. I'm pretty sure my girl's wondering what happened to me, and my sister's worried sick about what happened to me and mom.
Day 03:
I found us food! There seems to be a grove of fruit trees nearby, so I know we won't starve. Mom has been out and about, taking in everything. It's so weird seeing her actively going out there and taking control like this. I mean, it's cool. But it's also so weird. She told me it's because she has to be responsible for us, but I don't know. I reminded her that we all need to do our share, so she doesn't need to put herself in harm's way for us. When she took a minute to consider it, I got this strange feeling like mom wasn't being herself. But she then nodded her head and agreed to it, promising she'd stick close by and go with one of us if she wanted to go further out.
As for Jared, he was looking around in the home earlier this morning and found a weird secret compartment near his bed. When he opened up the hiding spot, he found a small cache of books with strange script in them. He's been intrigued with them ever since. I'm pretty sure he'd forego dinner to try and figure out what the books are for if I left him alone to it. Gotta make sure he doesn't get too lost in translation to chip in around here.
