“This has to be a record?” inquired a middle-aged mermaid as she swam with her head just above the surface looking at the shoreline.
“No…we have had shipwrecks before.” added a more senior merman as both looked toward the beach, there on their once untouched beach was three large pickup trucks and at least a dozen sleeping figures. The remains of a campfire was still smoking and they could see multiple coolers and beer bottles lying in the sand. “It will be a recent record, mostly we get one or twos at most four not this many.”
“Do we know how many?” inquired the middle-aged mermaid, her light pink tail moving back and forth under her. Her long blonde hair was pulled back into a tight bun, and her massive E size breasts were held back by a bra made of a seaweed, sea shells and other natural items. She had a few pieces of jewelry around her neck and on her arms and if she was a human, she would be considered a drop-dead bombshell for her age, a cougar one of her last humans turned merman had called her. Since all mermaids/merman where naturally more beautiful than humans she took it all in stride.
“Hard to say, at least a dozen but possibly more the humans are having spring break and that is what these humans seemed to be celebrating so we estimate their ages to be early to mid-20s for a human.” Added the merman, merpeople aged about the same rate however once they reached their mid-20s early 30s their aging slowed. The mermaid looked to be in her late 40s when she was closer to 70 and had another 70 years or so of life left. “Either way you will be in charge of helping them transition.”
The mermaid sighed, that was her job here after all, but she was looking forward to an easy time, she had a vacation coming up and dealing with all these humans transforming at once wasn’t going to be easy at all. Then it got worse.
“All of the humans have been in the water as far as we know so they are already transforming.” Added her boss “Either way, the cove has trapped them here so they can’t get out.”
Both knew that the beach the humans where on was magical, a sort of one-way doorway between the human world and this magical water-based world. The humans may have driven onto the beach but now they were trapped on a small island. None of their cell phones would work, none of their technology should work either and there was no way for them to get home.
“With so many humans transforming at once we should expect some drastic changes.” Stated the mermaid, there was always a chance that a person who would swim in the magical water would go through a massive change. A normal change would be growing one of the multiple types of mermaid/merman tail and minor changes to the body to make it the ideal version of itself. Slightly larger breasts, better skin, better muscle tone was all common. A change of hair color, eye color and the like wasn’t common but it wasn’t uncommon either and most people got over that quickly enough. It was the massive changes, where a man became a mermaid or a women became a merman was the hardest to deal with.
“Well I will leave you to deal with the newest members of our race.” Said her boss as he turned and swam off leaving her to deal with the humans who would soon be waking up to find their lives will forever be changed.
