You feel an intense heat on your face as the light dies down. Your were sitting on the floor. No doubt the sudden light must have startled you. But you don't hear any of the other students laughing at your pitfall.
You place your hand on the floor in order to get back on your feet, but your fingers, instead of laying flat on the floor, closed around something coarse, rough, and irritating.
Looking down confirms it. You were sitting in a pile of sand. And looking around, you find it wasn't a pile of sand, but an entire expanse of it.
The sunlight felt harsh as you get to your feet. Taking a few steps forward, if you shield your eyes, you think you could make out some kind of structure in the distance.
