“Oh yes,” the fortysomething gynecologist says as she looks over you. There is a gleam of interest in her eyes behind her glasses and a hint of suggestion in her voice, but otherwise she keeps her manner professional.
After getting Phoebe helped you get dressed, the two of you packed most of your old clothes, except for a few items that have sentimental value, into the household’s SUV. After dropping them off at a local Goodwill which would send them out of New Lesbos, Phoebe drove you to the local clinic for your first medical exam as a woman.
And now here you are, stripped naked and standing in the middle of the exam room.
“You’ve got nice, wide pair of hips,” the doctor continues. “And from the egg sample we took, your ovaries are functioning and fertile.”
“You mean,” you say nervously, “I actually could get pregnant?”
The doctor nods. “If you go to our local sperm bank-it's a shame you didn’t make a deposit before you changed-or have a one-night stand with a man who’s just arrived or is passing through town.” The thought of sex with a man sends a shiver of disgust through your spine. “Most newbies don’t fully change overnight although-did you.... ejaculate before you went to bed? Sometimes that speeds up the process.”
“Well,” you say, your cheeks turning red, “my housemate Maddie came into my room last night. She was a man before coming here and wanted to know what sex with a guy was like and we-.”
Now the doctor looks concerned. “Did you use any protection? Birth control is rare here; we seldom need it.”
“Not really no,” you admit.
The doctor takes a deep sigh. “Well, I have to tell you-it's not certain but it’s very possible that-.”

You get dressed and listen to the rest of the gynecologist’s lecture. Mostly she talks about your new hygienical needs, such as vaginal care and how to deal with PMS-something you are NOT looking forward to. What she had said earlier about what you probably did to Maddie keeps you from paying full attention, you know you’ll have to talk to your housemate when you get the chance.
Finally, your exam is over. You walk out to the lobby where Phoebe is waiting.
She smiles when she sees you. “You ready to go, Brianna?” You nod; already you decided you’d go by the feminine version of your old name. “Good then. Time to get you some new clothes.”
You and Phoebe drive over to a local boutique. Phoebe takes out several dresses, skirts, shirts, jeans, and tops. Some she puts back, others she puts into a cart. “It’s best start out mainly with just casual and work clothes,” she says. “You can build up your wardrobe later as you find your own style that suits you.” You also get several pair of panties and bras; you know you can’t keep wearing your old boxers and the borrowed sports bra forever.
Next you sit down at a makeup visualizer and Phoebe test out various looks on you, and picks the appropriate cosmetics. She didn’t let you look at any of the images. “It’s more fun to wait until you try it on for real,” she says. “We’re going to have a LOT of fun over the next week as we show you how to do this stuff.
Finally, you buy some shoes, mostly flats but a couple of heels, and then some jewelry Phoebe insists will look good on you. The total bill is over 3,000 dollars; you sigh as you give the saleslady your credit card, grateful this place offers a special discount for recently transformed women.
You and Phoebe walk out to the SUV and put in the beginning of your new wardrobe. Phoebe smiles widely as you both getting you seats and buckle your belts.
“I’ve put in a call and booked an appointment at Anatasia’s salon,” she says playfully. “You’re getting the New Girl special. When we’re done, you’re gonna feel like a whole new woman.”
