Lis blacked out immediately, Mike was awake long enough to feel the air around him heat up exponentially, but not get burned. The blood rushed to his head as his skin began to tingle, and he fell into unconsciousness with a warm, comforting feeling.
Christie felt dizzy and fell, her palms and face pressed against the carpet floor of the Carson's hotel room, but eventually gained her bearings to stand up.
Ellie kept her composure. She did not cry or scream or wail. She quietly whimpered before coming over to her parents and tapping them, nudging them to make sure they were okay. She tried to wake them up, to no avail. Christie came over to help as well, before taking her phone out to call 9-1-1. In that moment, they began to hear screams of all volumes and of all genders and ages coming from the streets, some of anger, some of fear, some of . . . pleasure.
Christie and Ellie looked to the television. The animation of the Fusion Wave was still playing, and they could visibly hear off-screen cast freaking out.
Ellie had her hand on her father's back when the changes started. She began to panic as she couldn't pull away. Christie tried to help but found her legs fused to Lis' flesh. The two kicked and pushed and screamed, but they only changed faster.
