You realize you can smell Peyton's perfume and body odor before she even opens the door. You can tell you are going to be a whole lot more informed about things during your time as a retriever!
When Peyton finally gets the door open, the look on her face could nuke cities. Fortunately, she smiles a little smile when she sees you, and you prance up to her, panting, with your thick tail pounding the air behind you.
"Hey, girl!" says Peyton, gently bringing her fingers between your ears. "What's your name, sweetie?" she asks in a baby-talk voice. You bark as though telling her she should know that from the text. She pets you for a few seconds and then steps away.
"Okay, just wait a moment, doggie, there's a different bitch out there that I've got to send an angry text to before we can play."
You cock your head to the side and watch her take out her smartphone. You wonder who she is telling off and why. When she's done, she tosses her phone on the table with a thump and starts ranting to no one in particular:
"I cannot believe the nerve of that woman! Just assuming that I have nothing to do but dog sit for her on a day like this. Well, I don't, but that's beside the point. And what was that nonsense about her being the dog, anyway? Was that some kind of figure of speech or something autocorrect screwed with? Or did she actually expect me to think she was turning into a animal? She's always making stupid jokes about how I must have been born yesterday. Well, I was not born yesterday, and I may be enough of a friend to do her this favor on short notice, but she had better be prepared to help me move next week, and she had better not forget this time!"
Finishing her angry monologue, she turns back over to you and smiles again.
"But we don't have to worry about her, do we?" she asks in her baby-talk voice. "We're going to have lunch, and play with your toys, and go to the park, and ... what's this?"
She's found the Book of Beast where you left it. You wonder what she is going to do with it. Since she obviously doesn't believe you are really her human friend who turned into dog, you really hope that she does not change herself in some unfortunate way by accident.
