In an underground bunker, in an undisclosed location, teams of Scientists, Engineers, and Doctors are hard at work trying to solve the problem, which was the Virus rapidly spreading across the world. Experts from around the globe have been chosen to research the Virus. The objectives: are finding a cure to the Virus, making effective weapons to combat the infection, or even finding ways to control the Virus by whatever means possible. They were given the best equipment humanity can offer, given a blank check for funding from some of the most powerful governments on earth, and to the horror of some and secret delight to others, all the human test subjects needed for any experiment on-site. The powers that Be told the Staff that they had complete legal immunity From any crime related to human experimentation, Human rights violations, or even the mistreatment of patients.
There were some protests here or there; some even wanted to leave on morals, but it was swiftly pointed out how dire the situation outside the bunker's walls. When that didn't work, the openly "moral" ones like a goody-two-shoes nurse or a doctor who thought the hippocratic oath still applied. they would find themselves "accidentally" locked into one of the cells the infected. the others would watch in horror as staff members were raped turned or eaten by the animals that once were human as the security staff standby. most of the remaining Staff have learned to cooperate, anyone who still felt like expressing their "moral objection" was just shot, and their remains were added to the test subject's food pool.
It is unknown to most of the Staff and guards how long it has been since the project started or have been given much information on how the rest of the world is doing at this point. Stress and paranoia are at an all-time high as the crematorium is working overtime as hazmat units make bets if they have passed the 12 million mark yet. Cutthroat office politics have set in, as paranoia amount the higher-ups cause more "accidents" to happen to the more skilled Staff or worst, Staff and guards are made to "volunteer" to be test subjects in whatever experiments they have in mind which most likely lead to a quick death if they are so lucky.
The higher ups isn't even bothering to lie to the staff about the human subjects are hardened criminals from Death row or people who willingly volunteered for the trials anymore. Who to say they're even is prisons anymore, let alone civilization outside the bunker? No one has thought of or even used money after the binding machines ran out in the staff rooms, and everyone is bartering for new films, books, and other luxuries at this point.
fewer supplies, manpower, and subjects are coming in now, and the black site is resulting in the site sending out salvage teams to try to find gear to make the base more self-sufficient than it already was. some of non-essential rooms and hallways are leaved dim as the remaining non-essential staff hopes that there are no more "mass firings" into the test pool. the guards are becoming split between keeping people from going AWOL if not fleeing into the night and keeping the growing pool of infected under control. Everyone know something was going to happen soon, good or bad but soon.
