Accidental exposure

Alexandra set the last box down panting and then dropped to the floor to rest. Looking at the boxes and furniture now haphazardly scattered through her new apartment made her regret insisting that she didn't need her family's help moving. Especially since it seemed like whoever came before her left half their junk behind. But even now that she was 19 her parents still had a tendency to take over any projects they got involved with to 'help'.

Beneath the floor she could her the sound of children running around. She wasn't a huge fan of little kids, but the city was so expensive that getting the discounted rent from being in the apartment above a daycare was worth it. Though after whiping off her forhead for the 80th time she was already getting sick of the humidity.

Taking a deep breath, she got back up and begain going through boxes. By the time everything was mostly in place the daycare was mostly quiet and sunlight was fading. Alexandra was about ready to call it a night when she heard a knock on the door. She hurried over to open it and found her new landlady, Tatiana.

The older woman looked her over, "Are you OK dear? You look exhausted."

"I'm fine just a lot of stuff to go through. I'm almost done at least."

"That's good to hear. I hope the children didn't disturb you too much."

"It wasn't too bad," Alexandra assured her, "I could barely hear anything."

"That's a relief. The last tenants always said the noise was far too much," the woman said with a flash of irritation, "Well I just wanted to check in. I'm heading home now, but remember if you ever have an issue with the apartment I'll be downstairs when the daycare is open."

"OK thanks. Have a good night," Alexandra waited until the woman had left then closed the door.

Turning back to the apartment, she decided to get ready for bed After a quick shower, she headed to the bedroom. Opening the closet to put some clothes away, she finally found something useful from the last tenants, a dehumidifier.

Pulling it out and plugging it in, Alexandra found the setting names less than helpful. There were four buttons labeled S1, S2, S3, and OD with a green light indicating which was selected. Then there was a switch labeled GB with an on and off side.

She left it on the current settings, assuming the last person to use it probably had it set it right for the apartment. Climbing into bed she hoped by morning it will have done it's job. The machine whirred quietly set to...
