Nicky waited, forcing himself to stay awake despite the growing urge to close his eyes. After what felt like ages, finally, his opportunity came. A girl sat up. Elise walked over to her. Seizing the opportunity, Nicky got up from his mat and sprinted towards the door.
“Uh-uh. Not so fast,” Elise’s voice said. Someone grabbed Nicky. He looked up. It was Elise. She had his arm in one hand and his bag in the other. “Honestly, Nicholas, I’m disappointed in you. Were you really trying to leave without the dice? Don’t you know that without them, you won’t be able to return to normal?”
“Wh- you-” Nicky said in a strangled voice. Elise picked him up and carried him over to the teacher’s desk, sitting down with him in her lap. “You recognize me?”
“Of course I do. The only people who have that particular shade of red hair are you, your children with your wife, and your child with me,” Elise said simply. Nicky’s jaw dropped. “Yes. Do you remember when I went on maternity leave a five years ago? It was because you knocked me up. I was naďve, since I was only twenty years old. I tried to let you know, but those yes men you surround yourself with told me I was wrong, I couldn’t be pregnant with the child of the only man I’d had sex with.” Elise sighed. “Our son Richard is four now.”
“I- I didn’t-”
“I know you didn’t know. But be honest. Even if you had known, you wouldn’t have done anything about it, would you? Other than fire me, maybe.” Elise smiled. “Luckily, Richard loves my husband Alfonso. And he adores his baby sister Isabella.”
“That’s- that’s good.”
“Yes. It is.” Elise ran her fingers through Nicky’s hair. “Even better, however, is the fact that I stumbled across a little shop that allowed me to finally get my revenge.” Nicky’s eyes widened. “That’s right. I sent those dice to you. I was hoping you’d be a bit younger by the time I got my hands on you, but I can fix that.”
Elise set Nicky’s bag on the floor and kicked it.
“Six years you have walked this Earth, now this number is but two. Each roll of the dice returns more of what you have lost.” The golden light surrounded Nicky, shrinking him even more than before. When it faded, Elise seemed enormous to him.
“How old are you?” she asked. Nicky silently held up two fingers. “Two? Perfect! That puts you back in diapers, for sure.” She pulled open a drawer in the desk. “I snuck some diapers in here the other day, all for this plan.”
Before Nicky could say a word, Elise had removed his now too-large clothes and efficiently diapered him. Just in time, as Nicky felt warmth spread through the diaper. Elise snickered.
“This is even better than I thought!” Elise tapped her chin, looking thoughtfully at Nicky. “Now what do I do with you? I could keep you and give Richard that little brother he wants.” Nicky felt another spurt of pee enter his diaper in fear. “Or I could set you loose and see if you find your way back to the shop to get the owner to turn you back to normal.”
“But- but-”
“Oh, don’t worry. If you can’t get to the shop, you can just have a grown-up call me, and I’ll come pick you up and take you the rest of the way. Or I might adopt you. It really depends on how I’m feeling at that moment.”
Nicky swallowed nervously. He was at Elise’s mercy, as evidenced by his already wet diaper. All he could do was hope.
