Newlyweds by the Nile

added by Alphagor A year ago O

Egypt was unquestionably a beautiful country with an ancient and rich culture. Assuming one is staying near the Nile and near one of the cities built along the great river. The rest of Egypt is largely desert. As a matter of fact, 98% of the population inhabited only 3% of the territory. And being mostly desert, Egypt has balmy weather year-round and while some people would like to vacation there, they may be considered partly crazy if they tried to do so during the height of summer.

However, the newlywed fennec couples had a distinct advantage. The fennec fox is largely adapted to living in the desert. Their very large ears weren't just for sharp hearing. It's a simple fact that among mammals, heat is radiated out mainly through the ears. That's why mammals that live in arctic areas have small ears and mammals that live in arid regions have large ears. Their fur was lighter than it looked and didn't absorb more heat than was needed. After all, desert nights are cold.

Nicole and Joanne were a little disappointed that they couldn't wear their new bikinis in public. While not oppressive as in neighboring countries, the Muslim influence in Egypt determined what was acceptable in public. So they'll have to show off for their new husbands in private, preferably after dark.

In the meantime, the four fennecs were looking over the Egyptian newspaper for anything interesting. There was a scanner app on their phones which translated the otherwise incomprehensible Arabic letters. "Huh, there's something I didn't know before," commented Lars, "Apparently they're building a new capital city for Egypt."

"A new capital? What's wrong with the old one?" asked Philip.

"It's overcrowded, apparently," said Lars, "Cairo's one of the most crowded cities on Earth."

"Not surprising," said Joanne, "All of Egypt lives near the Nile. There's bound to be some elbow room issues."

"I wonder how much of a presence Animalians will have in this new city," said Nicole, "What is it going to be called anyways?"

"It isn't decided yet," said Lars, "But a minister indicated it might be named 'Egypt'."

Nicole scoffed and said, "That's a stupid name for a capital city. They should at least call it something like 'Egyptopolis'."

"Maybe you can suggest that to some ministers when we go up to Cairo later," said Joanne, "After I take a look at the modeling agency here."

"Really?" asked Nicole dryly.

"My company's products are a big part of Animalia's fashion industry," said Joanne, "I want to see how well the agency is doing here."

Philip looked at another part of the newspaper and said, "Hey, the Set lookalike contest is still open for entries. Could be fun."

"Do you think we look anything like Set?" asked Lars.

Philip shrugged and said, "Set is pretty much up for grabs. It would at least be worth watching."

"It's just a cash prize, right?" asked Nicole.

"Yeah, it's not like the winner will be pharaoh for a day," said Philip.

"Considering Set's reputation, that's highly unlikely," said Lars.

Just then, the waiter brought them their drinks. "Ah, I've been looking forward to the local tea," said Joanne, picking up her cup.

"Uh, Mom, I hear that they make the tea really, really strong here," said Nicole.

"Oh please," said Joanne, "I've had Turkish coffee before. Tea won't do me any harm."

"Yeah, but Turkish coffee is served in small-" started Nicole before Joanne took a long sip of her tea. "Oh boy," muttered Nicole.

Joanne put down her cup with a satisfied sigh. Not long after, the others noticed a few changes in Joanne's expression. Her pupils dilated enough to take up most of her visible eyes surface. She started grinding her teeth and tapping her foot. Her ears twitched more and more until they were basically flapping.

"Uh, honey, are you feeling okay?" asked Philip with concern.

"Okay? Of course I'm okay, I've never felt more okay. I've never felt so good in my entire life. What do you say we go back to our room and have a few rounds? Maybe we can reach a dozen? No, not late enough, too sunny, too hot. We should go do something now. I feel like taking a jog. Maybe a run. Should I change my clothes? No, no point. They don't allow sports bra out in public. Such a shame. Would be cooler. I'll guess I'll have to go as I am. Catch you later or maybe you can catch me if you can," said Joanne rapidly before jumping up and running out the door.

"Maybe I should..." started Philip, reaching for Joanne's cup.

"No, that's a bad idea," said Lars sternly.

"Hey, I have to go catch her," said Philip.

"Oh, I'm sure she'll be back," said Nicole, "After she runs around New Zerzura."
