Glenn struggles to keep his mind conscious as he loses himself to the alluring smell and taste of the cigarette. The bear chuckles to himself as he begins to eye Glenn with a devious look, similar to a predator viewing its prey before it strikes. As Glenn begins to rearrange himself, trying to position himself to lay on his stomach with his ass in the air, a sudden crash prevents him from moving any further. Glenn glances at the bear who has a confused expression on his face before the door to the room is smashed open and a man covered in layers of clothing bursts through the room.
A man around six foot with a muscular build, hoists a gun and shoots at the bear which causes Glenn to fear for his mate, expecting a bloody outcome, only to be relieved to see that a tranquilizer has been shot out and hit the bear directly on the neck. The bear tries to grasp on to the tranquilizer, but the effects are exacerbated as the man shoots two more darts at his legs, making the man fall on to his knees before laying on the ground. Throughout the shootout, Glenn finds he's still losing himself through the cigarette. Fortunately, the man takes notice and walks over and plucks the cigarette out of his mouth before stomping it out on the floor.
The man throws a bottled water from his backpack to Glenn before telling him to drink up as he walks over to the bear and digs through his pockets before pulling out a key. Glenn holds the bottle against his right thigh with his foot allowing him to open the water with his right hand. He takes a swig and feels himself regaining consciousness as the water dilutes the taste of the cigarette. Within a few seconds, Glenn has chugged the entire bottle of water and feels refreshed as the man unlocks his handcuff. Before Glenn can even thank him the man pulls out a walkie talkie and begins to speak. "Found one inhabitant in the West Apartment Complex. One bear has been subdued." Some static is heard as the man holds the device next to his left ear. "No. He doesn't appear to be infected. Seems his physique delayed the virus from acting quickly." The man continues before he listens to a response before storing the device away.
The man glares back at Glenn and holds the gun at him. "State your: Name, Age, Occupation, and any Relevant Information regarding your self or experience in the past four days." Taken aback at not only the threatening man but at his recent experience in being captured, Glenn feels himself almost overwhelmed with the recent and current set of events.
"Glenn Baird. Thirty years old. Fitness Trainer. I'm from Scotland but moved here a week ago to work at my friend's gym. Using stockpiled food, I was planning to escape by staying hidden and sleeping in abandoned apartments. It worked for the first four days, but I was captured last night." Glenn finished out of breath.
The man continues to stare at Glenn making him sweat profusely before giving a reassuring nod. "Affirmed. Now Listen Up! I need you to follow me back to our base. We've branded a group of survivors that have been taking refuge in a gated community. Once there we'll give you your own mission. With your build, I'll say you'd be pretty useful as a shield," the man chuckles surprisingly.
It was Glenn's turn however to become enraged. "Why the hell would I go with you fucking idiots to be used as a shield?" Glenn could feel warmth radiate from his face as he continued yelling. "Thanks for saving me. But no thanks to helping you lot. I just need three more days to leave the city and I'm free."
The man glares again at Glenn before shaking his head. "I don't believe you have much of a choice. My rescue operation from before caused quite a stir. I wouldn't be surprised if a group of bears have already surrounded the complex. I'll give you a choice: come with me and I'll guide you to my base or you can escape on your own."
