Jaden is a 20cm one year old green Sand Lizard, Jake had gotten the Lizard as birthday gift from his uncle. The Lizard's body is covered in beautiful bright green scales, in some parts his scales are a dark green.
The tingling sensation in his head and body slowly subsides, Jaden blinks a couple of times, 'me... feel... strange,' he thinks to himself, his eyes widen, and without thinking Lizard blurts out, “me... think?! Me... talk?! Wha... happen... to me?”
Jaden feels confused, he also feels that he no longer thinks in a simple way, he feels as if he has become smarter, not like a human, but still smarter. The Lizard realizes that his thoughts and talking somehow does not feel smart, the words are all muddled. Jaden looks around, trying to find a clue of what is going on, his eyes land on his master's desk and he notices the strange looking equipment and the a bottle with some weird colorful liquid. The Lizard tilts its head, 'master do... something... to me,' it asks himself, 'must be... me... need to know. Maybe it the... spr-spray? If it the... spray... me want more... me want te be... smarter! Want te tawk... pwoppa!'
The Sand Lizard looks up at the sealed lid of it's glass case, Jaden tilts his head, “lock... easy te open,” he says, “but... me no can reach... to high,” he feels as if something is urging him to open the case and use the spray. Jaden however realizes that he has no way to reach the latch, so he decides to wait for Jake to return. The Lizard curls up, his eyes on the door, “me hope... me get answers...,” he mumbles.
The hours pass, and Jake has not yet returned, Jaden himself has drifted off to sleep once again. It is six pm when Jaden wakes to the sound of Jake's door open and close, still groggy and half asleep, the Lizard blinks a few times to clear his vision, he then sees that Jake has returned.
Jake puts his stuff by his bed and heads straight for Jaden's case, “looks like Jaden is awake,” the boy says, “let's see if the spray worked.” The boy stops in front of the glass case and leans a little forward, “Jaden, c-can you understand me,” the boys eyes widen when his pet Lizard nods it's head, “c-can you t-talk,” Jake then asks.
There is a little pause, then Jake sees Jaden open his mouth and say, “me can.”
Jake can't believe it, “holy... crap,” the boy whispers, “it actually... works.”
“Master...,” Jaden then says, “me no... understand. Why me... suddenly... talk... and think.”
“I... I got a Lab Kit from my mom,” the boy says, pointing to the Kit on his desk, “the manual said that, the Kit can create special sprays.”
Jaden tilts his head, he looks up at the boy with interest, “ex-explain more,” he says.
Jake nods, “um... I... I then thought it would be cool if you were a little more intelligent and able to talk,” the boy continues, “so I created a spray which would make you smart and give you the ability to talk.”
Jaden nods his head, he even gets a thoughtful expression, “me understand,” he says, “it weird though, and me talk weird... talk not right... .”
It is now Jake's turn to tilt his head, “hm... yeah,” he says, “you talk funny.”
Jaden looks up at his master, “you make... me smarter,” he asks, “me then talk... better and proppa.”
Jake thinks for a while, “hm... yeah...,” he says, “if I'd spray you again, it should cause you to become smarter and able to talk better.” Jake hurries to his desk and takes the bottle, he then returns to Jaden. The boy opens the lid to the case, “I squirted you only twice the first time,” he says, “let's see what happens when I squirt you four times,” he then lowers his hand into the case and squirts the liquid onto Jaden's body.
Jaden shivers as the cold liquid hits his body, “it cold,” he says, then he starts to feel the tingling sensation in his body and head start, “ti-tingling starts... .”
Jake looks down at his pet, “d-does it feel bad,” he asks.
Jaden shakes his head, “n-no... not bad... j-just weird,” he says.
Jake lets out a breath of relieve, “d-do you feel any different?”
Jaden nods, “I feel... smarter,” he says, “I feel... that I can... talk a little proper now. I am starting to know how to... use words better... .”
Jake nods with a smile, “yeah, you sound a lot better,” he says, “but... I think it could be even better.”
Jaden nods, “I agree,” he says, “I want to become even smarter and better.”
Jake nods, “let us pour the rest of the liquid on you,” he says, “that should do it,” Jaden nods and Jake opens the bottle and empties the contents onto the Lizard.
Jaden shivers as the tingling increases, “I feel myself becoming more and more intelligent,” he says in perfect english, “it feels amazing.”
Jake smiles wide, “this is so cool,” he says, “I hope it is permanent.”
Jaden nods, “me too,” he says, “I would hate it if I'd go back to be a simple thinking animal. Does the manual say anything about the effects being permanent?”
Jake shrugs, “I don't know,” he says, “the manual is a little hard for me to understand, there are phrases and words that don't really make much sense.”
Jaden tilts his head in thought, “maybe... I am smart enough to understand,” he asks.
“Well, I could carry you to my desk and you can try reading the manual,” the boy says.
Jaden nods, “yeah.”
Jake lowers his hand into the case and Jaden climbs up onto his palm, the boy then carries the Lizard over to the desk and sets him down in front of the manual. The Lizard starts to read, while Jake watches, “I can't wait to tell my parents,” he says, beaming.
“Um... Master,” Jaden starts.
“Jaden... please call me Jake,” the boy says.
Jaden nods, “okay... Jake,” he says, “I think it'll be best to keep it a secret. Your parents would think you are crazy and I don't think you want some therapist to examine you, right?”
Jake scowls, “no way,” he says, “okay, I won't tell my parents or anyone.”
Jaden smiles up at Jake, but then again Lizards smile all the time, it is simply the way their mouths are formed. “Good,” he says, he then sets his attention back to the manual, “it does say here that the effects are permanent when reaching a certain point,” he continues.
“Cool,” Jake says, “do you feel that your situation is permanent?”
Jaden nods, “I do,” he says, “we'll know for sure in the morning. It says here that after 24 hours the effects wills reverse, so if I am still the same tomorrow evening, then it's permanent.” The Lizard flips through the pages and stumbles across some receipts for liquids, such as “growth”, “age” and “body shape”. He looks up at Jake, “there are some liquids here I'd like to try out,” he says, “especially the age, because we Sand Lizards only live five to six years. I would like to age like you, so that we could always be together.”
Jake opens his mouth to reply when he hears his mother calling him for dinner, “um... I gotta go eat,” he says.
Jaden nods, “okay, I'll study the manual a bit more while you are gone,” he says, “and we could maybe create and try a different spray.”
Jake nods, “sounds good to me,” he says, “I have all night, because tomorrow is Saturday and I have no school,” the boy then hurries down stairs.
Jaden looks after the boy, unaware to Jake, his pet has become super intelligent, the small Lizard already forming plans in it's head, 'I am much smarter than silly humans now,' he thinks to himself, 'Jake may think I am still his pet... but... once I am done evolving, Jake will be the pet. He already is doing anything I say and does not question my suggestions or ideas, it'll be easy to turn him into a obedient pet, without turning him into an animal.'
