The Chronivac dinged, and Sally walked over and gave Jeff's furry head a rub, carefully putting a new leather collar around the neck of her new doggy.
"I may be in the body of a pet...but I don't appreciate her treating me like one. I think she's forgetting who is the real pet here..." Jeff thought.
Jeff felt a sudden headache. He whimpered in pain as his human knowledge was being stripped away. From his school education, his vocabulary, to even walking on two legs, that information was being removed. Without it, he still had his human memories, but they were like someone trying to understand a foreign language.
His mind began to slow, as high brain functions started to fade...after all, a dog didn't need to operate on anything other than instinct. For a moment, he had nothing else, till the Chronovac added appropriate knowledge. A vocabulary of commands that he needed to know, but it was limited to a much smaller set than before.
Sally walked over and gave Jeff's furry head a rub. "What is it, boy? Does it hurt?" She said, in a soothing voice.
The pain faded, and was quickly forgotten by Jeff. He barked approvingly at her attention.
"How about we get your leash and I'll take you for a proper walk, so we can see how those legs work?"
Jeff recognized the word walk, and eagerly started to run for the front door.
Sally walked after him, laughing at his excitement.
