As Maria drove back to her apartment, her mind drifted back, time and time again to the witch's words, no matter how she tried to put it aside. The possibilities were too numerous, too vast, too powerful to ignore. On the practical side, she could get Lilith to actually clean up after herself every once in a while. In fact, if she really wanted, she could even turn her into a robot, or golem, or other tireless creature, and let her give the whole apartment a thorough scrubbing overnight, and return to her cute little human self the next morning, fully rested and ready to go.
On a more personal side, she could turn Lilith into anything she'd ever fantasized about. And while she still took her faith seriously, she had plenty of hidden fantasies, sexual or otherwise. Whether it be fulfilling an odd, impossible fetish, or getting to ride on a real winged horse, Lilith could make it possible, assuming the witch had told the truth.
Reaching the parking lot, Maria sighed and shook her head, mentally chiding herself for thinking of using Lilith like that. The woman she loved deserved better than that. Even if Maria still couldn’t find it in her to actually say she loved her, yet.
When she stepped into her apartment, Lilith was lying on the sofa scrolling through her phone, her odds and ends scattered across the floor and coffee table.
"Oh hey, Maria, you're finally back. I was starting to think we'd be late for the movie." She sat up. "What took you?"
"Oh, right, the movie… I'd almost forgotten."
"Something up, Maria?"
"No, no, nothing at all." She waved dismissively.
Lilith stood up, and moved closer. "Come on, Maria, you've got no poker face. Was it what made you late?"
"No, it wasn't, because nothing is bothering me. Now-"
"I don't think God takes you lying well, Maria." Lilith gave a wide grin.
Maria groaned. She hated it when Lilith pulled that card. "I made a stop to do some shopping, and met a strange woman."
"Yeah? And what did she do?"
"Lilith!"
"You know I won't stop bugging you until you tell me what actually bothered you, right?"
Maria frowned. "It’s silly."
"Doesn't seem like it was silly to you."
"Fine, fine. The woman claimed that she was a witch, and that she had put a spell on me that would give me complete control over you, mind and body alike, able to change you as I see fit."
Lilith blinked a few times then giggled. "You're right, that is silly!" She shook her head. "Come on Maria, didn't you say that God is the only supernatural force in the universe?"
Maria frowned. "She used magic to change my outfit to a witch costume and back!"
"It’s all smoke and mirrors, Maria." Lilith waved her hand dismissively. "I'll admit, it is pretty weird to tell a stranger you've given them some ultimate power over their friend, but it's not like this city doesn't have a few junkies."
"A junkie that can use slight-of-hand to change my clothes twice in less than a minute without my feeling or seeing anything?"
"...I mean, I've seen some pretty impressive magicians before. Ever been to a Sorcerer Spectra show?"
"Lilith!"
"Okay, okay. If you're so worried about what this lady told you, why don't you test it. Right here, right now. Use that 'magic' to turn me into the wildest thing you can think of."
"But Lilith, I-"
"If it doesn't work, no harm, no foul. If it does work you should be able to change me right back, right? So stop letting this stupid thing hang over your head, and prove the crazy lady wrong."
