I dashed out the front door, running as fast as I could, when I saw the blue and red lights of three cruisers parked on the road. "Don't shoot!" I screamed at them, raising my hands in the air. "I'm human!"
"Get down!" shouted one of the cops, hiding behind his car, shooting at someone behind me. I did as he commanded, flopping onto my stomach, crawling to the road.
The rest of police opened fire as well, and I turned my head in time to see Karen go down in a hail of gunfire. "Nooo!" I shouted, trying to run to her, being tackled by a well-meaning officer. "Let me go!" I protested, to no avail, "She saved me!"
Kyra and Arnold weren't far behind Karen, and they met the same fate, falling in the hail of gunfire. I watched in disbelief as all three reverted to their human forms as they collapsed, blood pouring out of their mouths. It wasn't like in the movies; it wasn't cool, or beautiful. It was tragic and terrifying. I watched two friends get killed, and a beautiful girl that I'd had a crush on die, despite having done nothing wrong.
Even as the police led me to an ambulance, where I was treated for shock, I couldn't get the images out of my head. My parents appeared at some point; apparently they'd been the ones to call the cops. Somehow they'd known what was going on in their house.
I didn't really pay attention to their explanations any more than I'd listened to the cops. I just wanted to cry, but no tears would fall.
I knew I could use the ring again, but wasn't sure if I should. I could change anything so far...could I bring Karen, Kyra and Arnold back from the dead? Should I even do such a thing?
