Adam wanted to ask them what the fuck had just happened, but, instead, only managed another squeak. He held his chest, trying to speak again, letting out a more desperate squeak. He looked at his hands again, squeaking and squeaking, eyes wobbling as tears obstructed his glassy vision.
Most of the room was still recoiling at the satanic scene, but one of them immediately recognised something in the plush; humanity. Siya caught Adam’s eyes, giving Liam’s a look, before the two raced past Dan, picking the plush up, a hand each.
“Hold on, hold on,” Siya said, “settle, no point getting yourself worked up.”
“Are you in there Adam?” Liam said, patting his soft hair floof. “Nod if yes.”
Little Plushie Adam’s face flitted between the two, before nodding.
“Are you okay?”
Adam’s face flittered again, tears bubbling again, as he shook his head. Siya took full control, hugging the plush to her chest, muttering support to the tiny thing. The plush, pressed against a different kind of plushness, suddenly felt a whole lot better.
“Siya.” Michelle said, moving over. “I know you have a thing for plushies but…”
Siya shot her eyes back at her sister.
“Okay, just be careful, we don’t know how any of this happened.”
“We do.” Dan retorted, pointing at the screen. “It was this thing. It's basically a reality altering device.” The room fell quiet, staring at him. “Look, you just saw our friend turn into Siya’s latest stim, does that sound any more unrealistic than what I just…”
Dan stopped, the feeling of Chells fingers almost clawing into his shoulders.
“Okay, sensitive topic, but the meat of what I said is still true. Look.” He directed them onto the screen, displaying all of Adam’s new details, which included his old details saved as his default. “That is Adam, and Adam did get turned into Toby Fox fancraft, meaning that this thing is the transformation device it purports to be. Not transforming your online data, not transforming your life in a bullshit marketing way, transforming you in a very Greek way.”
They all looked at the screen, before looking down at the plushified Adam, still pressed against Siya’s chest, only now looking outwards. He looked at them back, squeaking.
“Can we turn him back?”
“Not until Sunday.” Dan added. “But it looks like we can change him a little, er. Hm. Only a little. I can give him money? Like thirty grand’s worth? But that’s over a year.” Dan started navigating through menus more looking for something else that wasn’t greyed out. After a while he landed on the fetish section again, gasping. “Dude, DUDE! Why are you into so many kinks?”
Adam, letting out a few frantic squeaks, waved his nubs at Dan.
“Don’t be a dick, Dan.” Liam said, swiping at the keyboard. Dan retained it, but backed out, preserving a modicum of Adam’s dignity.
“Okay, okay, but it looks like he is like that for a few days. I mean, it looks like he is ‘functionally immortal’ according to this thing. Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. We have a device here that can do, well, not everything, but some pretty god-like shit.” They all took a moment, awed by the power at their fingertips, a million ideas racing through their minds.
“Well, WE can’t turn him back,” Laura added, “but I mean, someone who knows more about this thing might.”
“You mean like the government?” Dan laughed.
The room laughed with him, but Laura’s silence implied she wasn’t NOT suggesting the government, After a pause and a series of protests the room descended into debate, rejecting the proposal outright. There was a brief melee over control over they keyboard, but Dan managed to retain tentative control.
“Okay, right, Jesus.” She sighed, Dan in one corder, fending Liam off with his foot. “So we don’t want to hand it over to the government, that’s established, but then what?”
