Danny awoke from his sleep, expecting the Pubertaway to work as advertised. However, his legs and waist felt a damp spot on his bed. Danny observed the spot only for him to realize that he had wet the bed! The comforter, along with the bed sheets, contained a large wet spot. His shirt and boxers, much larger on him than before, felt just as damp on him.
"Wait a minute," Danny thought, "I hadn't done that since elementary school!"
Danny scrambled out of his bed, nearly falling on his face doing so. His boxers fell straight to the ground, incapable of being held up by his smaller waist. His shirt felt more like a nightgown on him. He had no memory of being this small in middle school, even though he used to be the shortest kid in class.
In the bathroom, Danny had to stand on his toes to look closer in the mirror. Staring back at him was a spitting image of him in the third grade, no older than 8 years old!
His head rounded out, and his stubble was replaced with a field of smoothness on his cheeks and chin. His torso contained a thin layer of baby fat, which remained on him until the fifth grade. His arms and legs had a thinner layer, indicating that he was closer to babyhood than adolescence. His hair curled around the top and part of the sides, resembling the messy haircut that his mom relentlessly attempted to comb away. His grin consisted of four front teeth with two just beginning to erupt in between the baby teeth that Danny had been reunited with. He was especially alarmed at feeling the wiggle of one baby tooth.
Danny laughed at the thought of having the tooth fairy visit him again. This caught him off guard as he had stopped believing a long time ago. Alarmed, Danny went to the Pubertaway to see how he could end up this young.
As it turns out, Danny meant to set the device to Mode 3. However, he had set it to Overdrive accidentally, having done so while distracted by his excitement. Though the instructions mentioned that Overdrive was a risky option, the risks themselves varied from person to person.
As much as he wished to figure out what he'd be at risk of, Danny was put off by the smell from his bedwetting. He decided to use a shower to clean himself. The shower head towered over him, and not a single strand of body hair was present. Danny had thought about taking a bath instead, but decided against it for the interest of time. He finished minutes later, emerging from the bathroom in nothing but a white towel wrapped around his waist.
He then stripped the damp sheets off of his bed, which was easier said than done. Removing them was hard enough with his smaller body, but Danny was unable to carry all of them at once as doing so would block his sight. Washing them was a challenge as well. Him being shorter meant that he was unable to reach the detergent or fabric softener without using a chair.
While the washer was running, Danny searched for his parents around the house. It wasn't until he reached the kitchen that Danny saw a note his dad had left behind.
"Happy birthday Danny! Your mother and I are running some errands, and we didn't want to wake you. We'll be back before dinner. Lunch is in the fridge, and if that thing made you a child, DO NOT LEAVE THE HOUSE."
Seconds later, the doorbell rang. Danny reluctantly opened it, not wanting the person on the other side to see him in his current state.
