Danny reluctantly opened it, not wanting the person on the other side to see him in his current state. He had been unable to find any clothes that fit and was forced to wear a pair of underwear his little cousin had left behind and was swimming in one of his old shirts from freshman year.
When he opened the door, he was greeted by Praneel, his young neighbor. Praneel was tall for his age and actually stood taller than Danny at his current age of 8 which made Danny uncomfortable as he had to look up slightly at the young boy on the doorstep. Normally Danny would tower over Praneel but not now.
“Excuse me, I’m looking for Danny. Is he here at he moment”
“Danny’s not hear right now, how can I help you?”
“Oh, his mom had said I could have a box of old junk she found in the attic to use for my school project and said Danny should be able to help me bring it home.”
Praneel was at the top of his class and the smartest kid Danny knew, he was also one of the smallest kids Danny knew. Sure he was tall for his age, but he was a string bean who looked like he weighed maybe 70 pounds wet. He had jet black hair, hazel eyes and a kind and happy face.
“I’m not sure where the box is, but you’re welcome to come in and go look for it upstairs if you’d like.”
“Thanks, I’m Praneel by the way.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Danny”
Danny froze. He hadn’t meant to introduce himself by his actual name, it just sort of slipped out.
“Wait, your name is Danny too?”
“Ugh, yeah like my older cousin Danny who you were looking for.”
“Oh, cool. Mind if I go look for the box now?”
“Sure head on upstairs and see if you can find it.”
