Alright... Time for practice #12... I thought to myself. The first time I attempted the human song was with Kriash when I nearly drowned myself. Then the next time I attempted the human song I realized that my lower body was completely naked... I mean yeah we didn't really cover our tails or anything, but after that event I felt really awkward around Stan for a bit. Then the next few attempts I realized that as a human I wasn't the most musically inclined. Now though I was pretty sure that my human humming ability should let me stay human for a little while.
A small melody while pulling on a full body wet suit instead of just a bikini top ensured that on the relatively deserted shore a humming young woman barefoot would be having a little walk along the shoreline. This was after all still a bit of magic that I wasn't used to. Still with a little practice walking I got rid of some walking rust and had a nice walk for the first time in a long while. I may have been a little careless in case I cut my foot on a rock or glass... or sprained my ankle or whatever... Then again these weren't really my legs were they?.. The more I thought the more I realized my thoughts were a little off... Had I been talking to Kriash a little too much? or had my sense of self simply weakened a bit? After all for all intents and purposes my lungs and legs were temporary, and I had been shifting between legs and tail numerous times for now. Now that I thought about it more... I did technically have a spell of sorts to make my breasts larger.
I went back underwater as a mermaid and when Kriash and I were alone together I asked "Say... after being a wizard did the world seem to be... different?"
Kriash said "I became a mermaid and gained powers beyond imagination. Of course the world would be different."
"Yeah but... Even with just a limited amount of magic I think my thoughts changed."
"Limited!?!" Kriash shouted "With a simple song a mammal turned fish gained the amphibious trait! We're not talking about evolved apes gaining the ability to generate a small spark when they could always have just bought a lighter. You sing you gain the ability to walk among apes my fishy sister!"
"and yet... I feel like I can only do so much with it. I mean if I sing around human wouldn't that risk turning them into monsters as well?"
Kriash stared me in the eyes and said "You have a mighty high opinion of yourself. It takes a lot of magic or stress or will to bring about monsterization. A simple melody in the air and magic contained to your own body would do squat."
"I still can't do a lot and to get back to my old life I'd need a lot more..." I thought for a second and asked "Say... A true wizard needs an apprentice right? It's also not like there are a lot of mermaids around either."
"Ask yourself how much of your mortal self your willing to let go of." Kriash stated "For sure whoever I was before becoming Kriash is dead in more ways than I can imagine. When you stare in my eyes you may as well be staring into the depths of the void of magic itself. Now when you're looking me in the eyes do you think you could drag your soul out if you were trapped in them?"
I came to the conclusion
