Coral handed the controller over to her twin, standing close to see what he would do with it. He quickly toggled to the profiles screen and scanned the options. "Oh look, there's another subject available!"

"See that last one?" Adam tilted the controller so Coral could see. "It's gotta be a pet fish somewhere! So the controller picks up on every living animal in range, not just humans." Turning, he spied a small tank with a blue betta fish inside on one of the dressers in their room. "I wonder..."
"You wanna change our fish? Like, grow it bigger or something?" Coral was confused, not imagining the same scenario Adam had been wondering about since the first change. Their betta fish was the only pet their parent's had allowed them to have so far, having said something about twins being 'enough work for now.'
Navigating to the pet fish's profile, he clicked right to the three dots that led to further features and options - Ah HA! That's what he'd been looking for: SPECIES. He clicked the drop-down bar and was presented with an alphabetized list of more creatures than he'd realized existed in this world, spinning like a game-show wheel as he scrolled down. Stopping around the D's, he quickly found 'DOG' and selected it, which let him to further select a breed. Unable to choose and not really caring, he just picked the MUTT option and toggled down to the SUBMIT CHANGES button.
"Wait!" Coral blurted out before he could click the button. "You might want to change the overall settings first - I forgot to last time and went from 10 to 5-years-old in only 5 seconds."
Adam cursored back up to the top right corner "Good thinking. If this works like I think it should, I'd like to have time to actually see the changes happening!" He quickly edited the length of change to a longer interval.

"It's going from a fish to a dog, so I don't want the change to take too long in case the water disappears and it can't breath or the changes start underwater!" They didn't know how the transformation would work, but 1 minute felt like a safe setting with enough time to see things morphing. He clicked SUBMIT CHANGES and they both looked up right as the fish tank disappeared, rocks, plants and water evaporating into the air and causing the tiny fish to fall and begin flopping on the dresser top.
Coral gasped and clapped her hands over her mouth, worried for the little creature. They both crept closer to get a better look, and Adam realized limbs had already begun to push out of the fish's body - it looked a bit like the images he'd seen of tadpoles as they transformed into frogs! The fish was also rapidly growing, going from less than 3 inches to over a foot long in seconds. It's bright blue color was dulling to a brownish-tan at the same time that it's scales were splitting, raising up and pushing out into a wiry coat of fur. It's frilly tail, which had gone to a limp mass with the evaporation of the water, solidified and curled upwards, puffing out with more tan fur and a white tip. The in-between creature's new limbs formed cute little paws at the ends, and two pointed ears pushed out on the sides of the still-fishy face, moving to the top of it's head as tan fur spread to follow.
As the minute came to an end, the final changes pulled a short muzzle out above the fish's gaping mouth, teeth forming and fur and whiskers completed the snout. The buggy-fishy eyes sunk slightly, one turning light blue while the other became a deep brown, furry eyebrows and eyelashes surrounding each. The creature shook all over like... well, like a dog coming out of the water, and Coral and Adam were left staring at the cutest little puppy standing awkwardly on top of their dresser.
It let out a happy "Arrf!" before launching itself directly at Coral, who just managed to catch the small terrier-like dog before they both fell to the carpet, the puppy proceeding to cover her face with kisses.
"I can't believe it worked!" Adam cheered. "This is so awesome!"
Coral was laughing, trying to fend off her tiny attacker. "What worked? Ahh! Charlie! That's enough!" she rolled around on the floor giggling at the puppy's antics.
"Changing the fish into a dog, duh. You just watched it happen, Coral."
"What are you talking about? Mom and Dad got us Charlie two weeks ago for our 5th birthday! We'd been begging for a dog for years, Adam!"
The memories of years of pleading surfaced, just like Coral described, but Adam also knew that the dog had been a fish just over a minute ago. He couldn't understand why Coral didn't remember until he went back to studying the controller and read the AWARENESS line under the overall setting again: 'Other: User and Adam Only.' He'd been distracted by elongating the length of the change, and had skimmed right over the first setting, not realizing how it would affect reality since he WAS the user, not Coral. She now only remembered having their puppy, and had no memory of a pet fish, just as their mother only remembered having twins!
