Ethan approached her on all fours, allowing her to get a good look at him. He looked even more disoriented and zoned out.
She opened her mouth, looking up at him from where she'd fallen. Her tongue fell out of it. She tried to pull it back in, but it felt rather unwieldy all of the sudden. "Ethan," she said, her word a bit garbled.
She began to notice more and more changes...as if they were accelerating, but it couldn't be what it looked like....this couldn't be happening. It was also feeling increasingly hot....had someone turned off the air?
She exhaled, then inhaled, starting to pant, which made the feeling of heat go away....but she was having trouble stopping. Ethan started panting as well. She watched as Ethan's legs shortened, and his hands, placed flat on the ground...started to look more like a second set of feet. She lifted up her hands and....the way it moved was increasingly like another leg. She took a few steps, experimentally....discovering she was now suited to walking on all fours as well.
It hadn't hurt...none of it had hurt...it just suddenly was. Like how Ethan's hair and eyebrows were suddenly much thicker. Even the hair on his body had gotten a bit thicker...although nothing like a...like a dog....
That made her remember...they were in a dog shelter. She whirled around to see Roxie standing over both of them. It wasn't until this moment that she realized that her size must have changed as well. Madison barely came up to Roxie's knees...knees that were part of long legs, wrapped in a pair of jeans. She kept looking up, seeing a torso, then a neck...then Roxie's head, which seemed larger somehow, in proportion to her new body.
Roxie focused on her, but it wasn't the usual blank stare she got from the shelter dogs. It had purpose. And despite what she was trying to deny was happening, she was still surprised when Roxie opened her mouth and said, "What's wrong, girl?"
