Cheyenne held her breath, a contented smile on her face. She was about to start a new adventure, a new life. While it was a little scary, the idea of growing up again with siblings was a very appealing prospect.
Cheyenne was surprised now as the mental affects of the Chronovac began. It was odd yet satisfying. Cheyenne's memories as clear as day. In essence she was mentally living her life backwards.
It started easily enough, Cheyenne watching her days in reverse. The girl watching her adult self through work days, weekends, quiet dinners with her husband. Cheyenne smiled remembering these events vividly before they faded away like smoke.
Now things began to pick up, Cheyenne reliving more memories. She now watched as she started her first day as assistant principal, then her excitement when she got the job, then their was the anxious weeks and months as she waited for news on her promotion. All were vivid, Cheyenne feeling as if she was living the moment before they faded into the ether.
More memories now surfaced, erasing themselves from Cheyenne's mind as her mind rejuvenated. Birthday milestones fading away, Cheyenne reliving her 50th birthday, the trepidation of her 40th, and finally the last hooray of youth for her 30th. These moments stuck in Cheyenne's mind for a moment. The girl remembering the events fondly before they became something to be looked forward too.
Now Cheyenne's memories were altering quicker. The girls education beginning to be affected. Cheyenne remembered her colleges graduation before it became something to look forward too. Other milestones of young adulthood fading as well. Cheyenne's drunken 21st birthday standing out for a moment. She remembered her friends holding her hair as she vomited. That memory too now vanished.
College now vanished from Cheyenne's mind, now she recalled her high school graduation. She remembered receiving her diploma, listening to the valedictorian, her excitement at entering adulthood. Soon enough though that memory also vanished, graduation was now something to look forward too.
Now other milestones of teendom began to disappear. Cheyenne's ability to drive, gone. Losing her virginity, that too vanished. Cheyenne was quickly forgetting things, boyfriends, kissing, sex, these things now faded into the ether.
Now the last of her education began to vanish. High school seemed so far away in Cheyenne's mind. She forgot Algebra. Why would you use numbers in math? Then division and multiplication began to filter away. Spelling big words, History, Science, those were big kid classes.
The last of Cheyenne's memories now began to reset. Elementary school was now something to look forward too. Cheyenne was in kindergarten, she had just learned how to tie her shoes and she was really good counting and the alphabet.
Today, Jeff was babysitting her and her big brother Josh. She was in the middle of hide and seek. Blinking she now peaked outside, noticing her brother dart behind the shed. She needed to be sneaky, to find a good hiding space. That's when she got an idea. Quickly crouching down. Cheyenne took off her shoes and socks.
"What are you doing?"
Cheyenne glanced under the porch, once more noticing Hannah. "Shoes make too much noise," Cheyenne stated. "I can be sneaky without them."
Hannah's eyes went wide, to her six year old mind that was brilliant. Squirming out from underneath the porch, the 6 year old now joined Cheyenne in discarding her own shoes, the two girls now standing barefoot in the grass. "You're really smart Cheyenne!"
Cheyenne grinned, her mommy always told her she was smart too. Cheyenne always loved running in the grass barefoot, it tickled her feet. For now though she and Hannah needed to find a great hiding spot.
