Nat and along with Spark and Rei went to the library around lunch period to look up anything they could find on or about the Mara. Rei looked like she was getting bored while Spark looked more determined.
"You know Nattie, I'm all for helping us not have nightmares anymore, but do all of us really have to be here?" Rei asked her girlfriend.
"Well you can leave if you want, I'm searching until that little...feline, doesn't give me anymore nightmares." Spark said holding back her anger.
"Wow, you're really holding a grudge against her." Nat noticed.
"No kidding, if you what she...." Spark began to say before stopping and going back to reading.
Nat and Rei looked at one another as Rei motioned for Nat to go and encourage Spark to divulge what she dreamed.
"Spark, all those nights I had nightmares and just last night, I dreamed you and....everyone only saw me as a monster. Amara doesn't just give us nightmares, she makes us see our fears. It's hard, but it's true, I know you guys accept me, but it will take a while before the world is ready to accept me and my mom for who we are. Just tell us what you've been dreaming about, please?" Nat asked.
Spark didn't answer for a moment trying not to cry.
"If I...if I tell you two, it has to be a secret just between the three of us right now. I can't....I can't tell Connor yet, not until I'm ready." Spark asked as Rei and Nat nodded and took hold of Spark's hands.
"It's really in the back of my head, it always is. Sometimes I think and sometimes I dream....that Connor, as good as he can be hunting real monsters, that one day....he'll....he'll be killed by one of them, and it'll be all my fault." Spark admitted trying not to cry but some tears fell down her cheeks as Nat and Rei sat next to her and she softly cried alongside them.
"Geez Nat, does Amara have to be like the bad part of one of your mom's stories?" Rei asked Nat as she looked up at her thinking for a moment.
"Wait, what did you say Rei?" Nat asked.
"You know, those parts of your moms books where bad things happen." Rei reminded her.
"Yeah, but they always....get better in the end. THAT'S IT!" Nat shouted and was immediately shushed by the school's librarian but quickly covered her mouth.
"What's it? You're going to give her one of your mom's books?" Spark asked confused wiping away her tears.
"No, but she has read a lot of my mom's books, and what are books but stories? They always have a beginning, middle, and end. It starts off good, but then something dramatic happens near the start or the middle of the book and most of the time, stories have a good ending to them." Nat explained.
"Well yeah, most stories but not all. So what if Amara can give us dreams that start off bad, but have a good ending to them?" Nat suggested.
"That's....not a terrible idea." Spark said nodding as the three of them put away the books and went out of the library to find Amara who was outside sitting by herself grumbling and still trying to get her magic collar off.
"Don't try it, that collar isn't coming off, until you reform." Rei said.
"I feel like a prisoner, I have to come to this stupid school looking like some cheerleader bimbo, and when I leave I have to go to your house as my 'prison'." Amara pouted as she crossed her arms.
"Well what if we told you, that we came up with a way for you to reform and still do your dreams?" Spark asked.
"I'm listening." Amara said as she raised an eyebrow and looked at them.
"You feed on nightmares, but who really says you only have to feed on peoples nightmares?" Rei asked.
"Well, no one really, Mara have just always done it, so, you know....go with the flow, I guess." Amara replied.
"Okay, well what if...half of the dreams you gave us started off as nightmares but then ended with a pleasant ending, like a book?" Nat suggested.
"You mean like....'The Royal Ball of the Vampire Princess'?" Amara asked thinking for a moment.
"What?" Rei and Spark asked in confusion.
"Oh, she's apparently a fan of my mom's books. That one is sort of like a...historical vampire story that has a happy ending." Nat said trying to remember the plot.
"Yeah, and it's like...my favorite book of all time." Amara said.
"Oh, so you identified with the princess?" Nat asked.
"Actually, I identified more with....her best friend. You know, the plus size girl." Amara admitted rubbing her neck.
"Really?" Nat asked surprised.
"Yeah, I...uh...I've never told anybody this before but....I've always wished I had a plus size figure. I've really only kept the slim look because....well, trying to attract attention from people to try and feed off their dreams usually has me looking like some perfect looking girl." Amara admitted.
"Well how about this: I'll give you that figure you want, if you start giving us dreams that have good endings, deal?" Nat asked as Amara stood there for a minute thinking.
"Deal." Amara said shaking Nat's hand.
Nat then used her ring and gave Amara a more plus size looking figure giving her a chubby look and clothes to match. Amara looked herself over and looked very pleased with her new appearance.
"I look...I look...like how I've always wanted." Amara said.
"You're welcome. Now remember our deal." Nat said as Amara nodded and Nat and Rei left leaving Spark and Amara alone.
"You know we haven't forgiven you yet. This was just a small step for you to try and...reform. But just so you know, that it will take a long time for me to ever forgive you for giving me those nightmares. I've seen what real nightmares look like and believe me, yours are child's play at most. You better be serious about wanting to reform, because if you aren't I won't hesitate to make you suffer like I've suffered." Spark warned as she walked off.
Amara took a hard gulp and realized how serious this fairy girl was. She was going to have to start changing her dream status if she wanted to live longer.
