For Connor and Miles, whatever their friends were going through didn't involve them directly. While Connor was dating Spark, she had been incredibly tight lipped about her nightmare. Miles on the other hand, bemoaned his rotten luck with being attracted to the supernatural. "Dude am I cursed?"
"Cursed," Connor asked.
"Yeah man cursed," Miles exclaimed. "First the Unseelie, then Violetta, now Amara. Why do the supernatural come on to me? Is it my deodorant or something?"
"I doubt it," Connor chuckled. "Probably just a weird coincidence." Miles simply grumbled under his breath, sulking as the two teens now looked around the hallway, Conner noticing Spark walking towards study hall with a rather sour look on her face. "Dude you should go talk with her," Miles stated.
"I don't know," Connor said softly. "Spark would probably tell me if something was bothering her."
"How am I single and I know better," Miles sighed. "Dude, somethings bothering. You should ask her what it is. You know, to at least show you care." Connor paused, Miles did have a point. He should check on Spark, something was obviously bothering her. "Thanks Miles," he said as he now made his way towards Spark. "I owe you."
"Find me a girlfriend that's not legendary or trying to kill us and we'll call it even!"
As Connor now made his way towards Spark, he found himself at a loss as to what to ask. The two of them had always gotten along well, never keeping secrets from eachother. This, though, was different. Connor couldn't quite put his finger on it, yet he had a small feeling of dread in the back of his mind. Whatever was bugging Spark hopefully wouldn't lead to an arguement. Taking a seat next to the green haired teen, he now flashed her a warm smile. "This seat taken?"
"Of course not," Spark replied happily, throwing her arms around her boyfriend. "But since when do you start off with cheesy lines."
"Sorry," Connor laughed. "But I wanted to talk with you. Somethings bothering you and I want to know what?"
"Oh," Spark said softly, withdrawing a little from Connor as she now looked towards the floor. "Its, um, nothing. Just stuff."
"Spark," Connor sighed. "Thats bull and you know it. Now cmon, please tell me I'm worried about you."
Spark sighed, she hated feeling vulnerable but realized that if she was going to be serious with Connor she needed to be. Yes it went against everything she believed, against her nature but she would need to take that step. "Ugh its stupid," she grumbled. "And I hate that you noticed. I'm a big girl I can sort out my own issues. I hate getting you involved."
"As long as we're together I am involved," Connor said. "We have to be open with each other. No secrets, no lies, its the only way this works."
"Okay fine," Spark groaned, a small smile spreading across her face as she gazed shyly at her boyfriend. "When did you become so mature?" Connor simply shrugged, a goofy smirk spreading across his face as he squeezed Sparks hand. "Okay you remember when your dad got hurt?" Connor nodded, shuddering at the memory.
"Heres the thing," Spark sighed sadly. "I've blamed myself for that. Your dad trusted me, I was his partner. It was my job to keep him safe and I failed. I beat myself up over that, I let him down, I let the family down. It was kind of a vicious cycle of self loathing."
"But Caleb made the pledge to you when he succeeded dad," Connor countered. "He trusts you. He wants to be your partner."
"And you have no idea how much that meant to me," Spark smiled. "Working with Caleb, it helped me. Put me back on a positive track. But thats not what's been bothering me."
Connor leaned forward, completely attentive to his girlfriend. Whatever happened had scared her. "What is it," he asked.
"It was that mara," Spark said bitterly. "That God damn nightmare demon. She had me relive that moment, my greatest failure and she made it even worse."
"How," Connor asked.
Sparks eyes now glistened with tears, Connor shocked at how vulnerable she appeared as she whispered her answer. "In my nightmare I saw you die and there was nothing I could do!"
"Spark," Connor said softly, wiping the tears from her cheeks. "I'm not going anywhere."
"But you could," she whimpered. "Lets face it. This job isn't exactly safe. If you're going to be a demon hunter then it comes with alot of risk."
"True," Connor replied. "But I haven't even decided if this is what I want to do with my life. I mean, I don't even have the cowboy hat."
Spark laughed, noticing the impish grin on Connors face. He was trying to put her fears at ease, and amazingly it helped to lighten her mood slightly. "Good thing too," she smirked. "Your dad and brother maybe able to pull off the cowboy look but I don't think you can."
"Thanks," he grinned, Connor now taking Sparks hand as he gazed into her eyes. "I know the risks Spark. I'm not naive to the danger but I can promise that I'll always be careful. Whether or not I become a hunter is still a up for debate but I promise you'll be the first to know and that I'll keep you mind when I make a decision."
Spark smiled, tears falling freely as she squeezed Connor tightly. She felt incredibly lucky to have Connor, the teen thinking of her whenever a major life decision arose. "Thank you," she sighed.
Connor smiled, comforting his girlfriend. As he looked towards the door, he paused as he saw a girl enter the classroom. The girl was chubby, but in acute way. Possessing a round face, with large breasts and ample curves, especially along her hips. Connor immediately noted that the girl would be considered quite desirable to certain people. "Hey knows that she's kinda cute."
Spark now looked up, scowl forming across her face as she noticed Amara. Turning to Connor with an angry expression, the girl now punched him in the stomach, immediately regretting her decision. "That's Amara the nightmare demon you jerk," she winced, grasping her hand. "Geez what the hell is with your stomach, it feels like iron."
"Serves you right for punching me," Connor wheezed, the teen now trying to catch his breath. "She's not even my type."
Spark grumbled a response, glaring at Amara. While she knew Connor would never cheat with Amara, the fact she had drawn his attention just gave her another reason to despise her.
