Two Talking Squirrels

added by Zoran 2 years ago A S

You watch the former two 10-year-old human twins, your so called “younger brothers”, seeming to enjoy themselves, you wonder what they are thinking of their new bodies. You look down at the keys, 'maybe I could give them the ability to talk again,' you think to yourself. You look back up and call the two young gray squirrels, “Lincoln, Levi... um... could you come her for a minute?”

The two tiny animals come running up to you and look questionably up at you sitting up on their hind legs. You wonder who's who since they look the same, “um... this is hard,” you say, “I have no clue who's who.” The two creatures start to chitter, pointing at themselves then at each other, “this is not helping,” you say, you then get an idea and look down at the keys in your hand. You look back down at the Squirrels, “um... please don't be mad,” you say, “but I'd like to try something, which... I hope... will make this easier for all of us.”

The two squirrels look at each other, then back at you, they seem to notice that you mean no harm or at least trust you as they both nod. Taking a deep breath, you aim the keys at the and imagine the Squirrels to be able to talk, and press the button. There is a flash of bright light, once the light has cleared you notice that Levi and Lincoln are still Squirrels, “I really hope this worked,” you say, “um... the Squirrel who is Levi, try to say something.”

“What the fr... hey I can talk again,” the Squirrel on the right says.

“Test, test, one, two, three,” the other, who must be Lincoln, says, “yup, me too.”

Both then look back up at you, “big bro... what is going on,” they ask, “one moment we are humans fighting over those keys, then next we know we are Squirrels.”

You let out a sigh, “first, I am not really your brother,” you say.

Levi and Lincoln tilt their heads, “what do you mean? Of course you are our brother.”

You let out another sigh, “that's what YOU and your tyrants of parents think,” you say, “but it is not the truth.”

“Maaaan... you are confusing us,” Levi says.

You nod, “I know, but please let me explain,” you say, “I hope you'll believe me.”

The two Squirrels look at you, they can tell by your pleading voice and look on your face, that you are not f-ing with them. They look at each other and nod, then they look back up at you, “okay, we promise to try and believe you. So go ahead and explain.”

You take a deep breath and start to tell them everything, how the day started, how you found the keys, how you transformed your friend and a cop into dogs, who in this reality are the pets of the Bells. You pause to let the first flow of information settle in.

After a while, Levi looks at you in disbelieve, “so, you are telling us that those keys,” he points his tiny finger at them, “have magic powers?”

You nod, “I know it is hard to believe,” you say, “but look at you, you were human boys who were fighting over the keys. One of you must have pressed a button and now you are two Squirrels, do you know who pressed the button?”

The two Squirrels look at each other, “I... I think it was me,” Lincoln says quietly.

You look at the small animal, “I have an idea on how the keys work,” you say, “answer this question: what were you thinking about when you pressed the button?”

Lincoln tilts his head as he tries to remember, “I was thinking if Levi would be a Squirrel or some other tiny Animal, that I'd have it easier to get the keys.”

Levi scowls, “so, you wanted me to become a dumb Animal, only to be able to play with the keys,” he asks, he sounds a little mad.

Lincoln rubs the back of his head in shame, “well... y-yeah,” he says quietly, “didn't work out as planned... I guess,” he adds, giving a tiny shameful grin.

Levi feels conflicted, “man... I really feel like wanting to rip every single string of fur from your body,” he says.

Lincoln lets out a little fearful squeak and ducks down, “pl-please... I... I am sorry,” he says.

Levi is silent for a while, he looks at his brother, then at you and the keys, then down at his own body. “You know,” he finally says, he turns to look at his brother and grins, “I actually like the new me,” he says.

Both you and Lincoln widen your eyes, “you serious,” you ask.

Levi nods, “hell yeah,” he says, “I always enjoyed climbing stuff like Trees. As a human it always was so difficult, but now I can climb stuff with ease. I feel so full of energy and it is hard to control the urge of running around and climbing up on stuff.”

Lincoln relaxes when he notices his brother's excitement, “same here,” he says, “so... um... you are not mad?”

Levi looks at his brother, “nah... this is actually pretty cool,” he says, “I'd like to show our friends and tell them about the keys.”

“Me too,” Lincoln says, “we could have so much fun. But would they recognize us? I doubt it, besides they won't believe us.”

You listen to their conversation and don't feel to pleased by the idea, “listen guys,” you say, “these keys aren't a toy. They are dangerous and can cause chaos and harm in the wrong hands, I'd really like to turn everything back to normal.”

“But we don't wanna turn back,” the two say and start to back away.

You look at them, “sorry guys,” you say and aim the keys at them, “I have to... I want my own and real life back... I got to fix this.”
