You quickly press the button, the two Squirrels glow and then there is the known bright flash of light, when the light clears Levi and Lincoln are back to normal, but naked. You blush deep red and turn around quickly, “pl-please put some clothes on,” you say.
Levi and Lincoln look at each other, both looking disappointed and sad, but they do as told. While they grab their clothes from the floor and start to put them on, Levi and Lincoln both think how to get their hands on the keys, unaware that the other is thinking the same.
You feel a tap on your back and turn around to see both 10-year-old boys fully dressed, standing behind you. You notice their disappointment, “I am sorry,” you say, “but I really got to fix this...,” you start to walk past them towards the door, when you feel a small hand grab your arm.
You turn and are met with the face of Levi, “please Darren,” he says, calling you by your real name, “w-we wanna be turned back to Squirrels,” he says pleadingly.
You look at Lincoln who nods in agreement, you shake your head, “sorry guys,” you say, “even if you enjoyed it, this is who you really are. Now, if you'd excuse me, I need to fix the cop, my friend and your... parents and of course myself,” you pull your arm free and again start to walk towards the door.
'I can't let him take the keys away,' Levi and Lincoln think to themselves, 'I got to get them, before my dumb brother does. Once I have my hands on those awesome keys, I'll have so much fun,' both smirk inwardly at the thought of being in possession of those magic keys.
You walk out of the room, unaware of what the two boys are thinking, and start to search for Mr. and Mrs. Bell and the two dogs, surely they can't be far.
Levi and Lincoln follow you, “Darren,” Levi says, “at least don't turn our parents back to normal.”
“Yeah,” Lincoln says, “they are always so mean and cruel to us. Please make them real Squirrels and let us come and live with you.”
You look at the two boys, “they might be evil people and would deserve staying animals, but you need your parents, you can't come live with me.”
“Why not,” Levi asks.
“Because, people would notice that we don't look the same,” you say, “I could end up in prison and you in a Orphanage or some foster home.”
“Can't you use the keys to make us look related to you,” they ask.
You shake your head, “I still have no real clue of how these keys work,” you say, “so I have no idea on how to do that, sorry... the better solution is to make everything return to normal.”
The two boys let out a sigh of disappointment but don't try to convince you any further, instead they start to help you find the Squirrels and Dogs, while they try to come up with a plan to get the keys from you.
'I have to wait for Darren to put the keys down somewhere,' Levi and Lincoln think to themselves, 'then I got to make sure I am the one to grab them before my dumb brother does.'
You still are unaware of the boys plan, and continue searching for the animals, “where are they,” you ask yourself, starting to become frustrated. You walk towards the kitchen and once you step inside you let out a groan and grab your head, the door to the back yard is open, “nononono... this can't be happening,” you say as you run to the door. “PAT, KEITH, MR. BELL, MRS. BELL.... WHERE ARE YOU,” you call, but you hear no response, no barking, no chittering, no nothing.
You sit down on the porch and put your head in your hands, you feel tears start to form and, “now what,” you cry, “how am I going to find them?”
Levi and Lincoln join you and Levi puts an arm around you, “hey Darren,” he says calmly, “don't worry, they'll return surely.”
“Yeah,” Lincoln says, “if Pat and Keith are our pets, at least at the moment, they'll defiently come back, so will our parents.”
“So why don't we go back inside and play something,” Levi suggests.
You are still sobbing, “why did this have to happen,” you ask yourself, “I wish I never have found the keys. These bloody things really ruin lives, I just want to be myself and have my life back.”
Levi and Lincoln are silent for a while, “hey,” Lincoln says after a while, “crying won't help, the only thing you can do is to wait for them to return.”
You look up and let out a sigh as you dry your eyes, “I... I guess you are right,” you say, so you and the boys walk back into the house.
“So, what do you wanna do, while we wait,” the boys ask.
“I... I need some time for myself,” you say, “pl-please just... just leave me.”
Levi and Lincoln look at each other, but they nod, “okay... we'll be in our room if you need anything,” they say, you nod and the two boys walk off.
You watch them leave, “what am I going to do now?”
