Chloe is the Problem

added by theguestfb 11 months ago AP Reality alteration

"So...let me get this straight," Evan asked. "You just randomly showed up to see a friend you haven't seen in like..." He looked at Vanessa.

"Well, we drifted apart when we got into high school...about 6 years ago...but we did go to the same school, so...since we graduated, it's been over 2 years." She looked at them. "I didn't even know you two were still in touch with each other...What have you been up to?"

Chloe looked at Angie, regretting they hadn't bothered to check...she'd have to make something up for both of them. What would a twenty year old be doing? Probably college... "We're in school," she said. "We're...ummm...home and we were looking through some photos and you were in them. Right, Angie?" she said, before Angie could say something suspicious.

"What photos?" Angie said.

"The ones on your computer...after we played that GAME," Chloe said. Honestly, Angie was a good friend, but...she could be frustrating. Was that way Vanessa wasn't their friend anymore?

"Oh, yeah...photos," Angie said, finally picking it up. "You should come back to my house and see them."

"Can't you just show them to me on your phone?"

"I don't have a phone," Angie said.

"It...broke," Chloe said.

Evan and Vanessa looked at each other. Something really weird was going on here, and they weren't sure what. "Well...it was nice seeing you after all this time..you should text me sometime..." Vanessa said.

"But...you have to come..." Angie said.

Chloe sighed, trying to think. "Do you have a piece of paper for me to write down my number?"

The other woman looked around, finding a pen and paper. Chloe wrote on it. "Need to talk to you alone...without Angie or Evan. Please." She handed it to Vanessa.

Vanessa looked at it quickly, hiding her surprise, then said, "Chloe, could I talk to you for a moment in the other room?"

Angie looked at them, frowning. "What about?"

"Just...something old I forgot. Evan, how about you show Angie around the apartment," she said, signaling him.

It was a weirdly transparent attempt to get Chloe alone, but surprisingly, Angie went for it.

Vanessa pulled Chloe into the other room. "What is this all about? I may not have seen you in a while, but a blind man could see that you are lying about something. You aren't very good at it. And Angie...is still behind the curve, like always. Are you in some kind of trouble?"

"Well, sort of..." Chloe said. "Why did we stop being friends?"

"That's what you wanted to know alone? It was your fault, Chloe. You got put into some advanced classes when we got to high school...and we had different lunch periods, and you started making new friends...and Angie...never changes...she's still acting the same now as she did in school...so I made some new friends."

"But...you're very different now."

"And I like who I am. People change, Chloe...I changed. Angie clearly hasn't changed a bit since we were kids. Have you changed?"
