Rosehill Academy attracts students from throughout the kingdom of Merria and beyond. Seated atop a broad hill overlooking the town of Rosedale in front and open fields and forests behind, it is a majestic, rambling collection of buildings in various styles as it has grown over the centuries. Many great heroes have come from its halls; it offers training for every job class. However, despite its prestige, generous grants keep its doors open to even the poorest student.
Which is why you, the son of a simple peasant farmer, are here. Even if you never become more than a sellsword, you can earn far more in monster-slaying than in plowing fields, and help your family tremendously. If you could become a famous hero along the way -- that wouldn't hurt either. Meanwhile the school would give you free room and board, if you proved a capable student.
"Hey there, youngster!" You look over from where you are contemplating the steps up to the Academy's main entrance, and see a young man hailing you with a raised hand. He has flowing blond hair, friendly blue eyes, broad shoulders and a broad smile to match. He is clad in steel armour, and a long red cloak accentuates his height. "I'm Lugh, a teacher here at the Academy. Are you thinking of signing up?"
"Yes," you reply, somewhat shyly. Looking him over, you think that, while older than you, he is probably not out of his teens. "Um, what do you teach?"
"Polearm fighting, mounted combat, and aerial combat. I'm a Lancer, you see. I'm only a junior instructor now, but once I turn eighteen I intend to take the trials to become a full Master and teach full-time. Pleased to meet you." He is now close and offers his hand. You take his armoured fist a bit gingerly, but he gives you a cordial shake.
"P-pleased to meet you, Lugh. My name is, um, Vintz."
He claps you on the shoulder. "A fine name for a strong lad! And what do you plan to become? Will I see you in my classes?"
