"M-maybe. I haven't decided what weapon I want to specialise in yet. But, I want to try to become a Magic Knight."
He whistles. "That's pretty ambitious, but I'm sure you can do it!"
He's right. Learning both physical combat and spell-casting makes Magic Knight one of the most demanding classes. However, it's also extremely versatile. You'll be useful to just about any party, and if you're successful you could become the mainstay of the group -- perfect for acquiring fame and fortune. But what had really sparked your interest had been seeing a Magic Knight perform at a fair a year ago, dazzling you with his feats of swordplay trailing flame and lightning.
"How about I show you around?" Lugh offers. "On the way to the clerk's office? Maybe Sir Rudolph -- the Magic Knight Master -- is around and you can meet him as well."
You nod.
The campus is quite extensive. There's various classrooms for academic subjects; a shrine for the Academy's Guardian Spirit, whom many fledgeling Summoners would choose to bond with; alchemy laboratories; training fields for combat and games. You meet a few of the instructors, and learn that you'll be specialising in a single element -- Thunder, Ice/Water, Fire, Earth, or Wind. Well Ice and Water are different elements; but they have very close affinity so it easy to study them together. The performer you saw must have been really something to have mastered both Thunder and Fire (even though they also have some affinity).
Although you don't meet Sir Rudolph himself, you do meet his junior instructor, a busty young Elf woman named Gwendolyn. Dressed in a tight black leather bustier and trousers beneath a scarlet cloak, you can't help but eye her figure and blush. Noticing this, she laughs, and gives you a warning. Her tone is light-hearted, but the message is serious: when she first came here, she was a male Hume. During her training, she lost her manhood to a Succubus' enchanted brothel; and after her graduation, she found an enchanted sword that made her an Elf.
You are quiet for a bit after you say good-bye to her, but there is still more of the school to see. Next are the dormitories, three wings branching off a large refectory at the rear of the school -- male, female and mixed. The refectory serves free breakfast and dinner, with snacks available for small fees. Behind the dorms across a grassy square lie the stables. These include exotic stalls for the Lancers' magical beasts, and Lugh introduces you to his bonded Pegasus, Perseus.
The tour ends back at the front building, where Lugh leaves you at the door of the clerk's office. While you didn't meet your prospective instructor, you did learn a lot. You've met more non-Humes in the past hour than you've previously seen in your entire life, and Lady Gwen's warnings about what might happen to you remain vivid.
Nonetheless, you are now even more eager to sign up and begin your journey to become a rich and famous Magic Knight. Lady Gwen also gave you some encouragement -- she was able to shake off the Succubus' allure and refuse working in her brothel through the help of her friends and her determination to fulfill her own dreams of being a Magic Knight. Surely you can do the same; you feel ready for any challenge. You sign up, committing yourself to eight years of training as a Magic Knight.
