Before I could decide however, the room is suddenly filled with a loud high pitched shout, “KIYOSHIIII...,” we all look up and see a small blond girl, who looks not older than 12, run towards us, smiling from ear to ear. Kiyoshi turns pale, he lets out a scream and jumps from his seat, running out of the lunchroom, we look at each other and shake our heads.
When the blond girl arrives at our table, Kiyoshi is long gone, the girl, who's name is “Zoey” and who is actually 18, pants as she tries to catch her breath. She looks around and notices Kiyoshi is gone, her expression turns from happy to disappointment and she looks up at me.
“What,” I ask.
Zoey has blond hair, which reach to the middle of her back, she always styles her hair in a braid, she has big green eyes. Her body is slender and her breasts are no bigger than a B-Cup. She also has a boyish apperance and personality about her, but she still looks kind of cute.
Zoey sighs and crosses her arms, “what's with him,” she asks.
“He's Kiyoshi,” I tell her.
Zoey shakes her head, “at this rate, I'll never figure him out,” she sighs.
Trying to lighten the mood, I chuckle and jokingly say, “we have been friends for years, and I still haven't figured him out.”
Zoey looks at me with a frown, “you are his best friend,” she says, “so you gotta understand him some!”
I smile at the little girl, “not as much as you think,” I say.
Zoey's expression returns to sadness, “I wish I understood him even that well,” she says, “we'd be in a relationship for sure then!”
'For some reason, I doubt it,' I think to myself, it was only a reflexive thought, but I still feel some guilt for thinking it. I only really know Zoey as Brad's younger sister, sure, but she does not seem like a bad person. If it weren't for her puppy-love fixation on Kiyoshi, I could even imagine us getting along pretty well with her. As long as she keeps at it, though, she is more likely going to make both herself and Kiyoshi miserable. 'If she was actually onto something there, I could just copy some of my memories of Kiyoshi over to her,' I think to myself, 'but I don't think she needs an alien-induced memory transfer just to learn that Kiyoshi likes aliens, video games and hentai.' I know that the real problem is, that Zoey does not know how to approach a relationship in the first place. If I would give her some basic knowledge, maybe it'd actually help her get over her crush. Or, rather than a memory copy, I could always swap Kiyoshi and Zoey to give both of them a little more perspective. Lord knows Kiyoshi could learn from it too, but I don't know if I should. For one, even if I think Zoey's probably a good enough person, I have no idea if I could trust her with something like that. The other option would be, just to let it slip and play out as always, which would mean I could avoid using the Device to modify someone else's mind. I am still hesitant about poking around and potentially doing some kind of damage in the process, and to be frank: the whole idea of it is somewhat unsettling to me.
Now that I have thought more about it, the whole thing is a little more risky than I had originally anticipated. Maybe this is something I am better off leaving alone, let Kiyoshi and Zoey work it out on their own. As I look at Zoey, how sad and helpless she seems to be, I can't help but feel sorry for her, I really would like to help her, but should I really take the risk? What would she say or do if she'd find out about the device? How would she react to my suggestion?
