Dan was horrified about what was about to happen. He had a mere 15 minutes before some guy would be gutting him. He tried to think of anything he could do, but there was nothing.
The hunter woman started her awkward small talk again, to pass the time until her husband arrived. "Wow, you're a big deer... We're gonna get so many steaks off of you, and roasts, stewing meat, burger... Oh, and your tenderloin... Yeah, we're gonna get a lot of good meals out of you. Sorry for what's gonna happen when Steve gets here, but... Like I said, don't take it personal, ok?... Oh geez.... Look at me, talking to a dead deer. I wonder if we could get your head mounted... I bet we could! Would you like that? You'll look real nice on our dining room wall... You'll get to oversee the whole dining room and kitchen. Won't that be nice?... No, no objections, huh? Ok, well, it's a deal then."
Moments later, the sound of rustling and then footsteps. His hunter woman stood up, and shouted out to her husband, "Steve! Over here!" He walked over and hugged her. "Sarah, wow! Good job, hun!.... Wow, look at that thing! Nice!"
Dan saw Sarah and Steve walk up and look down on him together for just a moment before Steve spoke up, "Ok, let's do this..." Dan saw him pull a sharp knife off his belt, straddle and crouch down over him. He did his best to block out the excruciating pain, as the knife was thrust into his body near his groin. He agonized as he felt every movement of the knife and listened to Steve's calm, collected voice... "Ok, so we cut around here, slit right up here along the belly up to here. Now we just reach in, cut here, cut here... And see, look at that, we can just pull all the inners out just like that."
"That's it?" Said Sarah. "That's it," said Steve. "Think I can get the truck in here?" "Oh, I'm sure," said Sarah, "if you just come through that way..."
"Alright, be right back, hun," Steve said as he went to get his truck. " "Thanks Babe!" answered Sarah.
Sarah sat back down next to her deer, while she waited. "Well, that wasn't so bad after all, was it?" she said to it. Dan thought to himself "yeah, not so bad for you..." as his body screamed in pain.
He heard the pickup truck approaching, reverse and saw it back right up to him. Steve hopped out. "Ok hun, I'll grab the front two legs, you grab the back two.... Ok, ready? Lift... Ok, there we go." He shut the tailgate up against Dan's backside. "You got your car out here, hun?" "No, I just walked this mornin." "Ok, hop in!" He heard the truck's driver and passenger doors both open, felt the truck settle slightly as they both hopped in, heard the doors close and felt the rumble as the engine started.
Dan was in disbelief, both at Kat and his quick misfortune. He bounced along in the bed of the pickup until they pulled into a driveway.
The truck stopped, then reversed up to a garage. Steve and Sarah got out of the truck. As Sarah pushed a button to open their garage, Dan heard Steve say "ok, it's gonna be plenty cool enough... We'll just hang it up from the rafters till tomorrow, alright hun?" And he heard Sarah answer, "Sure babe!"
Dan was lifted out of the truck and set in the middle of the garage floor, by the two of them. He felt a piercing pain as a wire was run through one rear ankle, then again through the next. Before he knew it, he was hoisted up and hung by his rear feet, with his head hovering just above the garage floor.
