So there he was, in horrible pain, hanging upside down by a wire through his rear ankles, and staring at the concrete garage floor and the two pairs of boots currently being worn by Sarah and Steve. Dan was just wishing for an end...
But he would have no such luck. As he hung there, he heard the two now-familiar voices from above continue talking. Sarah excitedly asked Steve "Hey, did you tell Jack yet?" "No, not yet," he answered. "I was in a hurry to come help you with your buck, and he was on the phone. He was talking to some girl he met in his class at school the other day. He seems to really like her. Said her name's Kat." "Kat?" thought Dan... "Could it be...?"
Sarah pulled her phone out of her pocket and made a call, "Hey Jack, get out here... Got something to show ya!.... You'll never believe it; your mom got a deer today! A big buck... come on out!" With that, she put her phone back in her pocket.
Only seconds later, Dan heard a new set of footsteps and then saw from his upside-down vantage point a young man approaching. He saw her run up and hug his mom, "Wow, Mom! You got a big buck already?! It's only opening day! How'd ya do it?" "Well," Sarah answered, I got up this morning, took a hike down around the corner into the woods there, sat in the brush along a trail and just got lucky... This thing came meandering along and stopped in front of the wrong woman, haha! All I had to do was aim and put a bullet through his heart. Dropped him right there!"
"Dang, good job, Mom!" Jack replied. "Did ya feel bad for shootin it?" "Nah, not really," his Mom answered. Anything that dumb can't really have much in the way of feelings I figure... It's gonna put a lot of meat in the freezer is the way I look at it. A lot cheaper, and a lot healthier for all of us than meat from the store." "Yup, that's awesome," said Jack.
"Hey Mom?" "Yeah?" Jack asked "I met this girl at school the other day..." "Kat?" his mom replied, "yeah, Dad told me... Is she nice?" "Oh yeah, Mom, she's the best! Anyway, I was wondering... tomorrow's Saturday, can she come over and hang out?" "I don't see why not..." she replied, "sure, that'll be fine." "Thanks Mom!" said Jack as he ran off to call his new girlfriend.
"I just know it's her," Dan thought to himself... "She planned this! My witch sister planned this! Oh, am I ever gonna get her back if I ever get out of this!"
"Well babe," Sarah said to her husband, "It's been quite a day, why don't we go in and clean up, have something to eat and maybe fool around later?" "Don't have to tell me twice!" he answered. As they walked off, Sarah hit the button to close the garage door behind them, leaving Dan in darkness.
