'Tragedy in the news today as Yankees pitcher Mike Davis was shot in his home. A police spokesman says Davis and his wife were shot in an apparent home invasion. Both Davis and his wife were taken to a local hospital and are listed in serious but stable condition. Authorities ask that if anyone has information regarding the case to please come forward.'
Nat and her friends were in shock. They didn't know the family well but they learned that they were friends of Ms. McKinnon. Arriving to school that day, they immediately noticed Mary Elise's pale complexion. "How are you Ms. McKinnon," Nat asked.
Mary Elise sniffed, wiping away a stray tear as she sadly gazed at her student. "Its been a rough morning," she whispered. "Sammy and Mike didn't deserve this. They've never done anything wrong."
"It was Ezekiel Kane wasn't it," Rei asked. Mary Elise nodded, the teacher now explaining everything she had heard.
When the police arrived, they immediately called for paramedics. Thankfully both Samantha and Mike had reverted to human form, however, the injuries they had sustained were severe. Quickly taking the couple to the hospital, they were greeted by Dr. Julia Harris-Moreland. Julia immediately took an interest in the case, stabilizing the young couple and discovering who the attacker was.
"Julia says Samantha told her the guys name before she lost consciousness," Mary Elise stated. "It was Ezekiel Kane, that's what she said his name was."
"That's what Rick told my dad," Connor said. "Aunt Julia was pretty shaken up by the whole thing. As it stands right now Samantha is still unconscious, she lost alot of blood and suffered a collapsed lung. If Mike hadn't transformed he'd probably be dead. The shrapnel wounds he sustained were serious but non life threatening. Julia said the police were confused about that one. They think he was wearing a bullet proof vest. Still, they have no leads on where Kane is."
"What about their daughter," Miranda asked. "I saw something about their daughter actually seeing the attacker?"
"Tricia is okay physically," Mary Elise said sadly. "Shes at her grandparents house right now. From what I heard though she probably saw Kane. I'm worried this going to scar her mentally for years."
"So," Miles stated angrily. "When are we going to kick this pendejo jerk offs ass!"
"Whoa hold on," Amara exclaimed. "We have to be careful. This guy almost killed two really powerful wizards. I think trying to fight him without a plan is suicide!"
"Amara's right," Mary Elise stated. "We have to be careful. That's why after-school I want Nat, Rei, and Miranda training with me in magic."
"Sounds like a good idea," Nat stated. The dhamphir teen now paused, the fear of Ezekiel Kane coming after her own family reaching the forefront of her mind. "If you guys can just check up on my mom while I'm at practice," she asked. "I'm worried about her."
"Dont worry Nat we'll keep her safe," Connor smiled. "And I think its best if we start looking for any other supernatural entities around town. Since Kanes here its only a matter of time before he strikes again."
"Leave that to me and Amara," Spark said. "We'll see what we can dig up. Maybe ask those two ghosts if they have any leads."
Nat and the others simply nodded, a grim expression crossing their faces. Somewhere out there was a demon hunter with no remorse. If they were going to keep their friends and family safe they needed to come up with a plan of attack.
