Coach Sinclair said, "Todd, dogs aren't allowed in school. I'll give you an off campus pass. Take your dog home, and make sure he stays there. Get your wallet and keys, and stop by my office for the pass."
"Yes, sir."
Todd opened his locker, tossed his keys, phone and wallet in his backpack. He did the same thing with Chad's keys, wallet, watch, and phone. Then he added Chad's jockstrap and shorts. There wasn't room for all Chad's clothing. Then he put the can marked Flea Spray in the pack and zipped it up. Next stop Sinclair's office.
"Here's the pass. This way Coach Sanchez won't mark you down for being late to practice. Now get going."
Chad was confused. He couldn't understand many of the words being said any more. He barely remembered being human. He sniffed Todd. Todd was friend. Chad belonged with Todd. Obey Todd. His thoughts were becoming simpler. He wagged his tail, as he followed Todd tethered by a makeshift leash.
Todd had ridden his bike today, but Chad's car was parked in front. Doggy Chad rode in the passenger seat, while Todd drove. Todd stashed Chad's car in the outbuilding garage where they stowed the motorboat, jetskis and snowmobile. He locked Chad in an empty kennel cage next to the outbuilding. Then he sprayed doggy Chad with more spray.
"Cannot have you getting fleas, Chad, can we?"
"Woof!" Chad barked.
Todd ziptied the cage door locked. He'd get a proper padlock later, and some dog food. He drove back to school with his car after putting his bike rack on it.
He gave the stowed his stuff in his locker, and handed Coach Sanchez the pass from Coach Sinclair. Sanchez scowled, but said okay go join the rest in laps, then muttered something about Sinclair having students pick up his laundry at the cleaners.
