Innshollow Asylum
Ancient history is buried deep into the marrow of every pebble and blade of grass in this quaint French town. On a sunny and bright day they say you can see the British coastline. Those days seem far and few between the oppressive sea of fog creeping in from the English Channel. Understandably few tourist come here, or stay for long should they have mistakenly take the wrong road to Cherburg. Likely to find a ferry to fair Albion there as the industrial city is in its own way overlooked. So, no. No tourists visit. Which suits the inhabitants.
Yet it is a destination for many who are, mostly, unwilling. Not all it should be said.
Sitting above the fog banks on a hill is the Innshollow Asylum. The institution is centuries old now, born out of the French Renaissance. There is no tour guide to offer this tidbit, but the former monastery used to be a center of learning and healing when plagues roamed medieval Europe. However you don’t need to look far to see Celtic, Norse, and other pagan ruins. Almost as if those with mystical connection felt called here. Strange coincidence that. Perhaps its nothing more mundane than the beautiful and breathtaking view. The staff do say it does wonders for the mental health of their patients. Yes, it must be.
Innshollow Asylum focus are on particular ailments of the mind: Those convinced they are mythological beasts, dragons, meremen, others; say they can speak to demons or ghosts of the departed; dream of other lives beyond the natural; anything with a supernatural connection, in fact. The Asylum director is aggressive in recruiting those kinds of individuals, and rumors say they’re not above threats and other forms of coercion if it means another patient is transferred to the asylum by the end of the day.
People have learned to not look too deeply into the rumors or to try to confirm them.
